Sacred Heart Boys, Friend Girls, win Pioneer Conference Track Titles

(KTNC) -  The Falls City Sacred Heart boys and Friend girls were the team champions at the Pioneer Conference track meet, Saturday in Auburn.

 Sacred Heart racked up 164 points to win the boys’ team race. Sterling was second with 119 points. Pawnee City had 89 points for third place. Diller-Odell was fourth, Lourdes Central 5th, with Friend, Southern, Johnson-Brock, HTRS, and Lewiston rounding out the team standings.

 Two records were set in the meet. Sacred Heart tied the meet record in the 400-meter relay. Sawyer Kean, Chaz Dunn, Austin Malone, and Yianni Haralabidis tied the record set by Sacred Heart in 2010, with a time of 44.4-seconds.

 Scott Borcher set a new meet record in the shot put, with a throw of 57-feet, 4.75-inches. Borcher also won the discus.

 Other individual highlights saw Yianni Haralabidis of Sacred Heart win both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, Henry Arnold won the 400-meter dash, Sean Strasheim won the pole vault, Chaz Dunn won the long jump and Austin Malone won the triple – part of a one-two-three Sacred Heart finish in those events.

 Trey Trauernicht of Sterling won both the 800 and 1600-meter runs, Alex Menninga of Pawnee City won the 3200-meter run; Sterling’s Chris Wenzl won the 300-meter hurdles; and Sterling won the 3200-meter relay.

 Friend won a close team race in the girls’ team standings, with 97 points. Pawnee City was just a half-point back in second with 96.5 points and Sterling was a close third with 90 points. Johnson-Brock was 4th with 64 points, Diller-Odell was 5th, Falls City Sacred Heart had 48 points for a 6th place finish, with Wymore Southern, Lourdes Central Catholic, and HTRS rounding out the team standings.

 Pawnee City junior Shelby Hundley had a big day, with wins in three events, the 400-meter dash, 100 and 300-meter hurdles.

 Johnson-Brock got two event wins, from Kacie Hahn in the 100-meter dash and Nicole Carbajal in the 400-meter dash.

 Jeryn Creek of Southern won the long jump.

 Sterling’s Jordan Lempka won the discus and Jasime Eickhoff won the shot put.

 For Sacred Heart, Jade Hill had a couple second place finishes, in the long jump and triple jump. Hill was also 4th in the 800-meter run, Rachel Parrish was 4th in the 100-meter hurdles, Maggie Goltz was 4th in the triple jump, Kathryn Bieker was 5th in the 3200-meter run, Elizabeth Magdanz placed 4th in the pole vault, and Haylee Heits was 5th in the discus.
 The Irish also placed in all three relays, finishing 3rd in the 3200, 4th in the 400, and 5th in the 1600-meter relay.

 One new meet record set in the girls’ meet. Friend established a new standard with a time of 10:13 in the 4-by-800 relay.
