Sabetha Boys Golf Wins 3A Regional Crown, While Three Other Area Schools Have State Qualifiers

It was a beautiful Monday for golf action and the Sabetha Bluejays played host to the Class 3A Regional that featured all the area teams at the level and at the end of the day one area team qualified for State and four schools overall had qualifiers for the 3A State competition.

Sabetha Bluejays led the way on the day winning their home Regional earning a spot at the 3A State tournament as a team and will defend their State title from last year after winning the Regional by four strokes posting a team score of 360. KC Christian locked down the second team spot for State posting a 364. Nemaha Valley finished third at Regionals as a team posting a 377, missing out on qualifying for State by 13 strokes. Maur Hill, Hiawatha and Horton finished fourth, fifth and sixth as teams, while Marysville and ACCHS did not field a team.
 
It was Sabetha Bluejay, Kevan Herbster putting together the best individual round on the day taking first place after posting a round of 80. His teammates, Tyler Ulrich and Connor Epple also finished in the top 10, placing fifth and sixth with rounds of 91 and 92, respectively.
 
Nemaha Valley Raiders, missed out qualify as a team for State but three individuals managed to qualify for the State competition. Senior, Caleb Meyer posted the best Raider showing finishing fourth with a 90, while Blake Mohney and Zach Bradley placed seventh and eighth tallying rounds of 92 and 94.

Maur Hill Raven, Christian Wessel and ACCHS Tiger, Patrick Sullivan each also qualified for the 3A State competition after each posting a 95 to tie for tenth place on the day and be two of the top five individual scores from the State qualify teams, thus earning them a spot at State.

Just missing the state cut after posting an even 100 in the windy conditions at Sabetha Country Club were: Mark McDermed of MH-MA, Sam Sowers from ACCHS, and Taylor Jacobsen of Hiawatha.  

Teams and golfers now turn their attention to the 3A State tournament next Tuesday, May 27th at Cherry Oaks golf course in Cheney, KS.
