Washington County, Onaga & Immaculata to Send Golfers to the 2A State Tournament

Pair of Twin Valley League teams in Onaga and Washington County took to the golf course on Monday in Class 2A Regional action playing at the Belleville Country Club in the Regional hosted by Republic County. While Immaculata competed in the Pleasanton Regional at Linn Valley Deer Trace golf course and saw a pair of golfers earn a bid to the State tournament.

Both TVL teams will have representatives at the 2A State golf competition next Tuesday as the Washington County Tigers qualified as a team and the Onaga Buffalos had two individuals qualify for State. The Tigers notched a third place finish to qualify for State after posting a team score of 405 to take third. Washington County was led by a pair of top 10 finishes as Tyson Hynek tied for fifth on the day with a 91 and Hunter Johnson placed ninth posting a 95.

The top team finishes came from Republic County and Bennington took home first and second as teams with scores of 378 and 397, respectively. Whitewater-Remington finished fourth place as a team with a team score of 416, while Onaga finished fifth as a team with a 429.

Onaga on the day was led by pair of top 10 finishers, who both qualified for the 2A State tournament individual. Lucas Helget notched a seventh place finish after shooting a 92 on the day, while Jace Fischer tallied a 96 to finish tenth at Regionals.

For Immaculata they finished fifth as a team with a four-man score of 433, missing out on qualifying of State as a team, but had a pair of individual qualifiers for the State competition. Dawson Schroeder paced the way for the Raiders finishing fifth on the day after posting a 90, while Evin Wheaton shot a 94 and finished 13th both in the top five individual scores not from qualifying teams, earning them spots at State.

Golfer's for both squads now turn their attention to the 2A State tournament next Tuesday, May 27th in Hays at the Fort Hays Municipal golf course.
