Classes B and D Begin 2014 Nebraska State Track Meet

 Class D and Class B athletes began the first day of the Nebraska State Track Meet.


In Class D, Sterling placed 2nd in the boys' 3200-meter relay with a time of 8:24.43. 

The Sterling girls' 3200-meter relay team placed 4th in a time of 10:23.24.

Syracuse was 4th in the Class B boys 3200-meter relay and 5th in the Class B girls' 3200-meter relay.


Falls City junior Lee Huettner and Auburn senior Dakota Groves just missed a medal in the Class B boys triple jump. Huettner placed 12th with a distance of 41'2.5". Groves 


placed 10th with a distance of 41'5".


Mariah Willey of Pawnee City place 3rd in the Class D girls' long jump with a distance of 16'10.75". Willey also qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles, with the fastest


preliminary time of 15.51 seconds. Shelby Hundley of Pawnee City finished 4th in her preliminary heat in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.46 seconds and did not qualify for 


the finals. Willey finished 4th in her heat in the Class D girls' 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds and did not qualify for the finals. Hundley did qualify for the finals in the Class D girls' 


400-meter dash, winning her heat in 1:00.80. 


Nicole Carbajal of Johnson-Brock finished 6th in her heat of the 400-meter dash in 1:04.19 and did not qualify for the finals. Maggy Rieschick of Auburn finished 7th in her heat of 


the Class B girls' 400-meter dash and did not qualify for the finals.


In the Class D boys' 100-meter dash, Falls City Sacred Heart senior Yianni Haralabidis finished 2nd in his heat in a time of 11.48 seconds and qualified for Saturday's finals, where 


he'll run out of lane 7. Sawyer Kean of Sacred Heart was 4th in his 100-meter dash heat in 11.65 seconds and did not qualify for the finals.


Sacred Heart's Henry Arnold just missed qualifying for the finals in the 400-meter dash. He finished 3rd in his heat, with a time of 52.77 seconds, missing the finals by .06 seconds.


Sterling senior Jordan Lempka won the Class D girls' discus with a toss of 136'11", winning by more than 14-feet over her nearest competitor. Hannah Davis of Pawnee City 


placed 8th in that event with a distance of 112'4".


Catherine Mick of BDS set a new state meet record in the Class D girls' pole vault, clearing 11'.5", breaking the old recordq of 11'0" held by Julie Froeschl of Sacred Heart.


In the 3200-meter run, Class D girls, it was Wendy Sterkel of Sterling finishing in 13:57.89. In the Class B girls' race, Melissa Davison of Auburn was 10th in 12:08.73. Class D 


boys' 3200-meter run, the highest placing for an area runner was turned in by Alex Menninga of Pawnee City, 17th in a time of 10:57.96. Dylan Benson of Sterling was 19ty in a 


time of 11:14.71 and Seth Harms of Sterling was 23rd in a time of 11:27.50.


Scott Borcher of Pawnee City, as he's done all season, won the Class D boys' shot put with a distance of 58'1.5". Kody Benson of Sterling was 3rd and Chris Wenzl of Sterling 


was 4th in that event.


Shelby Hundley of Pawnee City will get a chance to defend her title in the 300-meter low hurdles, finishing 2nd in her heat to qualify for the finals in the Class D race. Class B girls 


300-meter hurdles, Maggy Rieschick of Auburn placed 3rd in her heat and Emily Harsin of Syracuse was 4th in her heat. Neither qualified for Saturday's finals.


Falls City Sacred Heart had a couple place winners in the Class D boys' triple jump, with Henry Arnold placing 6th with a distance of 41'11.5" and Austin Malone 7th with a 


distance of 41'7".


Sacred Heart's Yianni Haralabidis qualified for the finals in the Class D boys' 200-meter dash, with the second-fastest preliminary time of 23.15 seconds.
