Freeman's Derek Zimmerman turned in an outstanding performance on the first day of the Class C State Track Meet at Burke Stadium in Omaha. Zimmerman eclipsed his own
state record in the triple jump, set in last week's district meet, with a distance of 48'9", and his time of 10.89 seconds was the fastest qualifying time in the 100-meter dash.
Zimnished merman's teammate, Cole Schuster won his heat in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.42 seconds, qualifying for the finals with the second-fastest time.
Final events in Class C Friday evening, Freeman did not place in either the girls' or boys' 3200-meter relay. The Falcon boys placed 12th and the girls were 15th.
Ryan Teten of Johnson County Central did not place in the shot put with his distance of 42'10.75", in 19th place overall.
In the Class C Boys' Pole Vault, Jay Kuhns of JCC cleared 13-feet and finished 13th and Ben Railsback of HTRS cleared12'6" and placed 15th. Tyler Loontjer of Fillmore Central
set a new Class C State Record and an all-class State Meet Record by clearing 16'2.5" in the pole vault.
Jeryn Creek of Southern was 2nd and Shelby Creek of Southern was 4th in the Class C girls' long jump. Marissa Haynes of Freeman placed
JCC senior Spenser Sullivan earned a medal by placing 8th in the high jump Thursday evening, clearing 6-feet even. Ben Railsback of HTRS failed to clear a height in the event.
In preliminary events, in the Class C girls' 100-meter dash, Freeman's Marissa Haynes finished 5th in her heat in 13.06 seconds and Hannah Borrenpohl of JCC was 4th in her heat
with a time of 13.02 seconds, neither qualifying for the finals.
In the Class C girls' 400-meter dash preliminaries, Freeman freshman Tori Bredvick was not able to qualify for the finals with a prelim time of 1:04.21. Class C boys' 400-meter
dash preliminaries, Mitch Faris of JCC recorded a time of 53.98 seconds, not fast enough to qualify for Saturday's finals.
Nate Liberty of JCC finished 24th in the boys' triple jump in Class C, with a distance of 34'11.5".
In the 200-meter dash preliminaries, Marissa Haynes of Freeman was 7th in her heat in a time of 27.48 seconds and JCC's Hannah Borrenpohl finished 4th in her heat in 27.22
seconds.
