Jackson Heights 34, Valley Falls 14

In their first game with a full healthy squad and coming off a forfeit win the week before, Jackson Heights opened district play with an impressive win churning out 358 yards rushing.  The Cobras fumbled at the one-yard-line going into the endzone on their first possession, but Adam Brey scored on a one-yard-run on the next drive and Peter Rupnicki broke two long touchdowns in the second quarter to make it 20-6 at halftime.  Rupnicki added a third score in the third quarter and was named player to bank on (Sponsored by the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha) with 127 yards on just 10 carries.  Brey added 126 yards on 16 totes while Korby Strube had 15 carries for 60 yards and scored on a 15 yard run for the final margin of 34-14 with 8:12 left in the game.

Valley Falls scored on a pair of pass plays from Marty Gatzemeyer to Jarret Wildeman.  A 21 yard strike make the score 14-6 in the second quarter and a 16 yard score to open the fourth quarter pulled the Dragaons within 26-14.  Yet, Valley Falls had two crusial turnovers in the redzone in the second half as Wyatt Olberding of Jackson Heights grabbed both interceptions.  Gatzemeyer completed 15 of 30 passes for 207 yards and also ran 18 times for 81 yards in the loss.  Wildeman had 87 yards receiving on 5 catches while Drew Maltsbarger grabbed 8 receptions for 93 yards.  Valley Falls drops to 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in district play.

Jackson Heights improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in district play after converting 9 of 11 third downs in the contest.  Senior, Lane Slocum was named the Denison State Bank lineman of the game with several pressures and two sacks while also playing center on offense and opening running holes up the middle.  The Cobras travel to face Onaga, who is 2-0 in the district, next week.
