Atchison Takes Second & Perry Lecompton Third For Top Area Performances at Atchison Volleyball Invite

Seven area teams and a few others took to the courts on Saturday at the Atchison volleyball Invite and it was the host Atchison coming away with the best area team performance in action finishing second at the tournament. Pleasant Ridge, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Immaculata, Perry Lecompton, Horton and Oskaloosa all competed at the Atchison Invite.

Action started with pool play with the action at the high school it was Shawnee Mission West coming out of pool play going 4-0, beating Atchison (26-24, 25-12), Maur Hill (25-17, 25-19), Immaculata (25-19, 25-16) and Pleasant Ridge (25-21, 25-14). The host Atchison Redmen finished second in pool play by going 3-1 in action picking up straight set wins over Maur Hill (25-18, 25-15) and Immaculata (25-20, 25-23) and a three set win over Pleasant Ridge (25-10, 21-25, 25-16). Immaculata notched a pair of wins in pool play beating Pleasant Ridge (21-25, 25-21, 25-22) and Maur Hill (25-23, 25-21), while Maur Hill beat Pleasant Ridge (25-19, 26-24) to finish the day with a win.

In pool play action played at the middle school it was another non-area school in Maranatha winning the pool as Maranatha picked up straight set wins over all four of their pool play opponents; beating KC Christian (25-16, 25-10), Perry Lecompton (25-17, 25-15), Oskaloosa (25-23, 25-23) and Horton (25-16, 25-18). The Kaws of Perry Lecompton wrapped up the second spot in pool play by picking up straight set wins over Horton (25-20, 25-12) and Oskaloosa (25-19, 25-10) and a three set win over KC Christian (25-9, 20-25, 25-10). The Horton Chargers notched a pair of wins in pool play beating KC Christian (26-24, 25-21) and Oskaloosa (25-17, 25-14), while Oskaloosa picked up a win on the day by topping KC Christian (25-15, 25-11).

Moving into the Semifinals the host, Atchison took on Maranatha and Perry Lecompton faced off with Shawnee Mission West and both matches were decided by straight sets. Atchison picked up the win 25-18, 25-21 and Shawnee Mission West won 25-22, 25-19.

That set up Atchison with a chance to claim their home Invitational volleyball crown but Shawnee Mission West had other ideas as they beat Atchison 25-19, 25-15. While, Perry Lecompton avenged a lost to Maranatha in pool play to take third place winning 25-22, 25-19.
