Washington County Wins, Nemaha Central Third & Royal Valley Fourth at Marysville Volleyball Invite

The Marysville volleyball Invitational had a Big Seven and Twin Valley League feel this past Saturday with multiple area teams's participating, as the Washington County Tigers claimed the tournament title and Nemaha Central and Royal Valley finished third and fourth, respectively for top area team performances.

Action in the Red pool saw one of the top 2A volleyball teams in the State in Washington County put together a went 4-0 in action beating Riley County (25-20, 25-15), Sabetha (25-13, 25-18), Royal Valley (25-16, 25-22) and Republic County (25-15, 25-21). The Royal Valley Panthers followed the Tigers in pool play finishing second in the Red pool by picking up a three set win over Sabetha (21-25, 25-20, 26-24), three set win over Republic County (25-22, 20-25, 25-17) but lost to Riley County (25-18, 18-25, 19-25). Sabetha picked up wins over Republic County (25-16, 15-25, 25-23) and Riley County (25-15, 17-25, 26-24), while Republic County beat Riley County (13-25, 25-22, 25-15).

In the Black pool play action it was Concordia taking first with a 4-1 record in action as Concordia's loss came at the hands of Hanover, with the Wildcats winning in straight sets (25-16, 25-13), while Concordia beat Nemaha Central (25-22, 25-16), Valley Heights (25-18, 21-25, 25-16), Southern Cloud (25-15, 25-16) and Marysville in straight sets. The Nemaha Central Thunder finished in second place in the pool by picking up wins against Marysville (26-24, 25-23), Southern Cloud (25-21, 25-18), Valley Heights (12-25, 25-14, 25-17) and Hanover (25-17, 25-9). Valley Heights finished the day with three wins beating Marysville (14-25, 25-8, 25-18), Hanover (25-12, 25-12) and Southern Cloud (25-13, 25-16), while Hanover along with their win over Concordia, also beat Southern Cloud (25-20, 26-24) and Marysville 25-23, 18-25, 25-19). While the host Marysville Bulldogs picked up their lone win of the day against Southern Cloud (25-13, 25-16).

After winning their pools, Washington County and Concordia faced off for the Marysville Invitational title and the Tigers won the battle of the cats to claim the tournament crown in straight sets, 25-20, 25-23. While, Nemaha Central topped fellow Big Seven League team, Royal Valley to win third place with a straight set win 25-21, 25-17 in the third place match.
