Washington County Leads TVL Top Performances at Riley County Cross Country Invite

After rain has been a factor in canceling multiple area cross country meets over the past few weeks, some Twin Valley League teams got action in over the weekend at the Riley County Invitational.

The Washington County Tiger boys continue to put together a strong season as they picked up the boys team title, behind three Top 20 finishers, including first place. The Tigers eeked out the team win just topping Sacred Heart by one-point, finishing with 54 points to Sacred Heart's 55. For another area team performances Valley Heights and Frankfort placed fifth and sixth, respectively out of 12 teams, while Centralia was 11th.

On the girl’s side of competition, Centralia had the best team performance finishing fourth on the day, while Washington and Frankfort finished sixth and seventh as teams.

The top individual performance came by Washington County senior, Dylan Hodgson who picked up another first place showing this year, racing to a time of 16:04.13, winning by over 50 seconds. His teammates, Kyle McGatlin and Eric Miller joined him in the Top 20 on the day finishing ninth and 11th, respectively with times of 18:18.23 and 18:19.26.

The Frankfort Wildcats saw a pair of Top 20 finishes earn in the boys competition on the day as Brodric Shirley raced his way to a fifth place finish posting a time of 17:59.82, while Alex Roeder finished 20th (19:01.67).

For the Centralia Panthers their best performance came in the girl’s competition as Sadie Jones posted the best area girls showing with her seventh place showing behind a time of 17:11.29. While in the boy’s race, Dylan Boeckman took home 18th place on the day behind a time of 18:58.46.

Valley Heights Mustang, Adrian Pishny raced his way to a 10th place finish in the boy’s competition posting a time of 18:18.53.

Axtell Eagles were led in the boys competition by Burke Deters who raced his way to a 17th place performance with a time of 18:45.37, while Chelsea Smith picked up a Top 10 performance in the girl's competition as she raced her way to a 10th place finish (17:22.92).

The cross country season continues this week for many area teams as the regular season starts to come to a close.
