Centralia Finishes Regular Season TVL Play Unbeaten & Wetmore Picks Up a Win in Volleyball Action on Tuesday

Across the Twin Valley League on Tuesday night it was the final regular season action before the League tournament on Saturday and the Wetmore Cardinals played host to Centralia and Doniphan West.

The night started off with the host Wetmore Cardinals earning their sixth win of the season, by taking down Doniphan West in straight sets, 25-12, 25-18. Wetmore started the match with a 4-0 run to to open things with senior, Keri Prfang at the helm getting the first point of Set one with a service ace. The Cardinals continued to dial up great serves throughout the set as Dakota McQueen picked up a pair of aces and helped the Cardinals take a 13-5 lead win Doniphan West called a timeout. Gerae Haverkamp dialed up five service aces in the set, also helping the Cardinals to the set one win 25-12.

In set two Doniphan West started off with the momentum taking the early 4-1 advantage and then pushing out to a 9-4 lead for the Mustangs. Senior, Regan Gibson and Kenzie Blevins paced the Mustangs upfront early in that match and Wetmore needed an early timeout at 9-4, but the Cardinals responded out of the timeout with three-straight points. Wetmore then worked the match to a tie at 14-14, but Doniphan West regained the lead right back until Wetmore strung a pair of points back-to-back to take their first lead of Set two at 16-15. The teams traded points and then Wetmore pushed out to a 20-17 lead forcing a Doniphan West timeout, out the of the timeout the Cardinals momentum continued and McQueen finished the match with back-to-back aces to give Wetmore the win in set two 25-18 and claim the match.

Centralia and Doniphan West kept the action going on the night as they meet up in the second game of the triangular on the night. The Panthers on the prowl for an unbeaten regular season in TVL play needed a win over Doniphan West to do so and did it with a straight set win over the Mustangs, 25-8, 25-7. Panthers started by taking firm control of the match early leading 10-2 when Doniphan West called a timeout, but Centralia kept the pedal to the medal and cruised to the set one win 25-8, as Cassidy Haufler picked up multiple kills, Katy Haufler set up her teammates and Katie Glatczak sprinkled in some service aces in the set.

The Panthers continue their momentum and play from set one into set two and pushed out to a quick 4-0 lead behind a pair of Amaris Jones service aces. The great serving continued throughout the set by Centralia as four-straight aces by Katy Haufler pushed the Panthers to a controlling 22-4 margin and Mayda Stallbaumer finished the set and match off with the final tally on a kill for the 25-7 set and match win.

Wrapping up the night was the host Wetmore squaring off with Centralia and the Panthers picked up another straight set win but the Cardinals hung with the Panthers in each set midway through, with Centralia ultimately claiming the 25-11, 25-14 win. Wetmore started set one with three straight points but six-straight tallies by Centralia followed that for the Panthers to take the lead at 6-3. The match remained close until Centralia went on a five-straight point run to lead 14-8 and then pushed it to 18-9, leading to Wetmore's second timeout of the set. Centralia went on to close out set one 25-11 over Wetmore.

Set two started like set one with Wetmore getting on the board first but Centralia answering with a run of their own, as Wetmore led 2-0, then four-straight by the Panthers made it 4-2, until Wetmore tied it at 4-4. Centralia went on a 6-1 stretch run after that to lead 11-5 and Wetmore called a timeout, out of the timeout the Cardinals rallied with five unanswered points to make it a one-point match at 11-10 with Centralia holding on to the lead. The Panthers ended the Cardinals run and went on a five-straight point run of their own to lead 16-11 and finished the set off with a 25-14 win and claimed the match.

With the 2-0 night the Centralia Panthers improved to 32-1 on the season and finished regular season TVL play 12-0 winning the regular season league title. While, Wetmore with a 1-1 evening moved to 6-24 on the season and finishes the year 1-11 in League play, while Doniphan West fell to 10-20 on the season with two losses on the night and finish League play 2-10.
