 Onaga 26, Doniphan West 13

In a rematch from week one of the 2014 High School Football Season, the Onaga Buffaloes again beat the Doniphan West Mustangs on Friday night for their first playoff win since 2004.  The game was tied at 13 at halftime, before Onaga outgained D-West 178 to 34 yards in the second half and pulled away for the home victory.  Both teams had only seven total possessions in the Regional contest and Onaga scored on four of theirs, including long drives of 80 and 77 yards which ate up much of the second half clock.

After forcing a three-and-out to start the game, Onaga took advantage of a botched punt and tackled the D-West punter at the 28-yard-line.  Eight plays later, the Buffs opened the scoring as Wyatt Cordell converted a fourth and goal play with his one-yard TD run.  Doniphan West answered on their next drive going 56 yards on 7 plays and Garrett Dunlap broke a 35 yard reverse to pull within 7-6, as the extra point failed.  On the first play of the second quarter, Michael Bliss scored on a one-yard run for Onaga, but it was 13-6 after they also missed a PAT.  The Mustangs then fumbled away their next possession for the only turnover of the game.  They appeared to have a defensive INT, but a roughing the passer penalty, kept Onaga with the football for much of the second quarter.  After forcing a punt, D-West went on a 10 play 75 yard drive of their own, converting a fourth-and-four on a pass play from Levi Watts to Cooper Leach, before the pair hooked up on an 11 yard touchdown pass to pull even at 13 just before the intermission.

The Buffaloes got three yard touchdown runs from David Koelzer and Bliss in the second half, including a 15-play, 8-minute drive and turned Doniphan West over on downs after the Mustangs drove inside the 25 yard line on a 15 play drive of their own.

Bliss was named the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company "Player of the Game" with 133 yards on 25 carries and two scores.  Onaga senior lineman, Dustin Blow, was named the "Lineman of the Game" sponsored by Denison State Bank online.

Doniphan West ends their season with a 3-7 record as Tynan Bollinger had 18 carries for 72 yards and is one of only two seniors on the Mustang squad, along with Brandon Caudle.  Onaga, who ran the ball 59 times for 279 yards, including 82 rushing yards for Cordell, improved to 7-3 and will battle Olpe in the second round of the 2-1A Playoffs next week.
