Oskaloosa Takes Seventh at Burlington Wrestling Invitational

Oskaloosa Bears, co-op with McLouth for wrestling took to the mats for the first time since before the Holiday break and competed at the Burlington Invitational against 20 other teams.

The Bears faced some tough level competition and came out with a seventh place finish as a team posting 108 total points. Fredonia took home first place with 193 points, while Silver Lake took home second with 174 points, while Burlington and Cherryvale tied for third with 148 points each.

Pacing the way for Oskaloosa on the day was Adam Perkins who wrestled his way to a second place performance at 220lbs going 3-1 on the day. Perkins opened the competition with a pinfall win in 1:07 in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, Perkins posted another pinfall win this time in 40 seconds and he followed that up with his third win coming in the semifinals via pin again this time in 1:37. In the Championship bout Perkins was on the other end of a pin, falling via pinfall in 3:20.

Three guys took home fourth place finishes for Oskaloosa as Triston Hopkins (106lbs), Mark Nickels (126lbs) and Ben Harvey (170lbs) earned fourth place performances. Hopkins put up a 3-2 record on the day with a pinfall win, major decision (12-2) and injury default win. Nickels notched a 4-2 record on the day, which includes a bye win, two pinfalls in 3:43 and 3:52 and a major decision (11-2) win. Harvey like Nickels posted a 4-2 record with three pinfall wins in 2:14, 1:57 and 1:36, while also winning a match via DQ.

Griffin Matney (152lbs) earned a fifth place performance going 4-2, while Jared Miller (145lbs) nabbed a sixth place finish with a 3-3 record on the day. Vince Dick (285lbs), Dante Nelson (182lbs), Wyatt Troupe (160lbs) and Zach Thomas (132lbs) also competed on the day for Oskaloosa.

Oskaloosa will take the mats again in tournament action on January 24th at the Holton Invitational.
