Latest KWCA Rankings (Jan. 13th) -- 3-2-1A & 4A

The first full weekend of tournament action on the mats is in the book in the 2015 portion of the season and wrestlers across the State are back into the fold and working towards their season goals.

The latest Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association rankings have been released and this week three area teams are ranked along with 14 area individuals in Class 4A and 3-2-1A.

In Class 3-2-1A, the Marysville Bulldogs remained ranked sixth in the team Top 10 poll while the Doniphan West Mustangs joined them in the Top 10 for the first time this year, coming in at ninth in the polls.

Leading the charge for Marysville continues to be senior, Josh Nelson who remains ranked number one at 170lbs, continue to hold the number one spot as he has for multiple weeks now. Chris Deters also continues to remain ranked for the Bulldogs, staying ranked third this week at 126lbs.

For Doniphan West there are two grapplers ranked along with a Troy Trojan that wrestles with the Doniphan West program. Two of the three guys continue to sit atop the perch of their weight class at number one as junior, Garret Dunlap and senior, Tristan Speer (Troy) rank first in their weight classes of 160lbs and 195lbs, respectively. Junior, Kody Collins continues to put together a strong season on the mats for Doniphan West as well and after breaking into the rankings for the first time in the last poll, remains ranked fourth at 182lbs, this week.

Four other area schools have a grappler in the 3-2-1A rankings this week as a Sabetha Bluejay, ACCHS Tiger, Pleasant Ridge Ram and Onaga Buffalo check in, in the polls.

ACCHS Tiger sophomore, Hunter Ostertag and Sabetha Bluejay senior, Jacob Leuthold both check in at third in their respective weight classes of 120lbs and 285lbs. Ostertag moved up one spot this week in the rankings, while Leuthold continues to have a strong hold on third in the heavyweight division. Pleasant Ridge's, Colt Evans after jumping into the rankings for the first in the last poll, is up one spot this week to fifth at 138lbs, while Onaga Buffalo, Dustin Blow falls down one spot to sixth this week at 195lbs.

In Class 4A it continues to be the Holton Wildcats highlighting the rankings for the area as they remain in the Top 10 as a team but fall down two spots to fifth in the team rankings. Leading the way for Holton continues to be senior, Lucas Lovvorn who remains number one at 160lbs, while Justin Rieschick also remained steadfast in his ranking at second at 145lbs. Both Mason Baum and Tyler Price also remaining ranked this week for Holton, both continuing to check in at fifth and sixth, respectively in their weight classes of 170lbs and 138lbs.

Royal Valley Panther junior, Matthew Bailey also continued to remain ranked in Class 4A, coming in at fourth once more this week at 182lbs.

The wrestling season continues to roll along this week with some area teams involved in Duals during the week and then many area teams hit the mats again over the weekend for more tournament action.
