KBCA Releases Latest Rankings With 15 Area Teams Ranked -- Feb. 9th

As the final month of the regular season in high school basketball is underway teams have their sights set on postseason play and closing out the regular season out with momentum on their side. The latest KBCA rankings have been released and 15 area teams find themselves in the rankings this week.

Once again in Class 4A-Division II the four area teams ranked last week continue to remain in the rankings this week. On the girls side the Holton lady Wildcats come in again eighth this week with a 9-6 record on the season, after beating Perry Lecompton and ACCHS last week. While the Holton boys fell two spots this week to tenth in the polls despite picking up two wins against Perry Lecompton and ACCHS last week to move to 9-6 on the season. The Atchison boys remain the highest area ranked 4A-DII team as they come in at seventh this week down one spot, after a 1-1 week with an overtime win at Harmon and a loss to KC Wyandotte to move to 9-6 on the year. Royal Valley Panthers picked up a win against Hiawatha last week to improve to 10-4 on the year and moved up to eighth in the rankings this week.

The Sabetha Bluejays continue to lead the area teams in the rankings in Class 3A as the lady Bluejays sit at 13-1 on the season and remain ranked fifth this week after beating Jeff West last week; while the Sabetha boys are also 13-1 after a win over Jeff West last week but fall two spots in the rankings this week to fourth. The Nemaha Central Thunder boys have been in the rankings all season and continue to be this week up one spot to eighth with their 12-2 record after topping Jeff West last week in their lone game.

Class 2A again features three teams this week but looks different than last week, as the Washington County boys fell out of the rankings and Jackson Heights boys return to the polls. The Cobras picked up an overtime win over Maur Hill-Mount Academy and beat Immacualta last week to improve to 12-2 on the year and jump back into the polls at eighth this week. While on the girls side of the rankings the Washington County Tigers and Valley Falls Dragons both remained in the rankings this week. The lady Tigers are up one spot to third after avenging their lone loss of the season beating Centralia last week to move to 14-1 on the year. Valley Falls moved to 11-2 on the season by beating Oskaloosa last week and fell to eighth this week in the polls, down one spot.

Four Twin Valley League teams are in the rankings in Class 1A-Division I again this week with the Hanover boys leading the way as they continue to rank number one with a 14-0 record on the season after a win over Wetmore last week. The Centralia boys took a pair of losses last week to Washington County and Rock Creek, falling to 9-4 on the year and falling three spots in the rankings to sixth this week. While the Valley Heights boys are down one spot this week to eighth with their 10-6 record after splitting last week's action beating Blue Valley and falling to Troy.

The largest leap in the polls this week by an area team comes in Class 1A-Division II as the lady Eagles of Axtell continue to climb the polls up two spots to fifth with their 14-3 record after picking up a win against Onaga last week.

The action continues to roll along this week with Sub-State on the horizon and teams jocking for position and seeding in postseason play.
