Centralia and B&B Both Ranked #1 in Final KVA Volleyball Rankings
By Mike Smith

Only sub-state and state tournaments remain for high school volleyball action and plenty of Kanzaland area teams look primed to make runs in sub-state on Saturday (click here for brackets) and the state tournaments a week from Friday.

With the regular season and league tournaments in the books the Kansas Volleyball Association (KVA) has released its last set of rankings this season and there are yet again three ranked Kanzaland area teams all hailing from the Twin Valley League, with a pair of other teams receiving votes in Class 4A.

Starting in Class 1A with the two division that is were the top Kanzaland area teams check in both in the number one spot in their respective class. The B&B Falcons remain in the number one spot in the Class 1-Division II rankings with a 32-5 record and most recently a second place finish in the TVL tournament. For the Falcons three of their five losses came to the top team in Class 1A-Division I and another to the other TVL ranked team in Class 2A. Falcons look primed to defend their Class 1A-Division II state title from last season, as they head into state lead by may great players including Laura Sudbeck (check out Laura's "Athlete of the Week" story from earlier this season -- click here)

In Class 1A-Division I its a return to number one and rightfully so after recently winning the TVL tournament going 5-0 in action and beating top team B&B twice the Centralia Panthers once again have secured the number one spot in the rankings. Panthers have roared their way to a 33-4 record this season with three of their four losses this season coming against currently KVA ranked teams or teams receiving votes. After winning the TVL tournament recently the Centralia Panthers spikers are our reigning girls "Athlete of the Week" (click here for story). Centralia looks to head to the state tourney yet again this season, after a second place finish last year.

The third TVL team to be in the final KVA rankings is that of the Washington County Tigers in Class 2A, as they took third place in the recent TVL tournament and currently have a 33-3 record this season. The Tigers last week were ranked third but have moved up to second in the final KVA rankings, as they have been ranked most of the season. Washington County like their counterparts B&B and Centralia in the TVL looks primed and ready to make a run towards a state title.

Final in Class 4A, two Kanzaland area teams are both receiving votes that being the Atchison Redmen at 29-6 and the Jefferson West Tigers at 31-6. Both teams have enjoyed great seasons but only one will be able to make the state tournament as they are both in the state sub-state, along with plenty of other great 4A competition.

Sub-state and state volleyball should yet again this year prove to be a great time for Kanzaland area teams and we will have you cover right here on MSCsports.net and Kanzaland radio (103.9 KNZA and 92.1 KMZA).
