Atchison Boys & Girls Sweep Home Track Meet Titles

Despite some chilly weather on Thursday several teams took the track for competition in Atchison as the Redmen played host to track and field action and ultimately behind 30 Top three finishes in the boys and girls competition swept their home meet titles.

The lady Red registered 193.83 total points taking first by 75.5 points as North Platte placed second as a team. The Maur Hill-Mount Academy lady Ravens rounded out the Top three team finishes, while West Platt, Lafayette, Savannah, Mission Valley, Troy and Bishop Ward rounded out the girls teams finishes. Atchison boys posted 123 points to win their home meet by 39 points over Mission Valley who took second and Lafayette who placed third. Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Bishop Ward, North Platte, Savannah, West Platte and Troy rounded out the boy’s team finishes.

The performances on the track led the way for the lady Red as they won seven track events including sweeping the relays. The team of Imogene, Arhianna Franklin, Talia Rawls and Payton Welch posted a time of 53.50 to claim gold in the 4x100, while Franklin and Rawls teamed with Jaihlyn Bratton and Kate McCoole to win the 4x400 behind a time of 4:28.22. McCoole also helped Atchison win the 4x800 as she teamed up with Emily and Sarah Jaloma and Hailey Macierowski to win notch a time of 10:42.62 to take first place. Sarah Jaloma also ran to two individual gold medals as she won both the 800 and 1600 meter runs with times of 2:43.26 and 5:58, while Macierowski won the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:42.53 and also took third in the 800 meter run. Anna Shipley and Payton Nigus each registered top performance for the lady Red in field events winning the pole vault (8'06) and javelin (90'03.50), respectively.

Six second place finishes were earned by lady Red as McCoole took silver in both the 300 meter hurdles and triple jump, Rawls placed second in the 100 meter dash, Lyndi Hanson took the silver in the pole vault, Teagan Hanson finished second in the 3200 meter run and Emily Jaloma grabbed the silver in the high jump, along with a third place in the 300 meter hurdles. Jaihlyn Bratton and Lindsay Anderson also notched third place finishes for Atchison in the 200 meter dash and shot put.

For the boys Atchison was led by four first place finishes including the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays. The quartet of Tyler DeSilva, Jordan Henderson, Jerel Rawls and Justin Whitmer posted a time of 3:52.21 to win the 4x400, while DeSilva and Whitmer teammed with Bret Huntington and Matthew Sowers to win the 4x800 with a time of 9:39.19. Rawls and Whitmer each won an individual event also winning the 400 meter dash (54.14) and 800 meter run (2:18.78), respectively. Sowers claimed a silver medal in the 3200 meter run, while Seth Heckle took second in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and Shane Johnston finished second in the 200 meter dash and third in the 100 meter dash. The Redmen 4x100 meter relay team of Henderson, Johnston, Rawls and LaMarca Tolbert also took third.

Three first place finishes highlighted the day for Maur Hill as Kassie Johnson won the girls 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.82, Jack Siebert won the 1600 meter run posting a time of 5:05.68 and the 4x100 meter relay team of Jose Soto, Ronaldo Faulk-Tindar and Josh and Nick Caudle tied Lafayette with a time of 47.05 to tie for first. Five second place finishes were earned by the Ravens including, Grace Siebert took second in the 400 meter dash, Nick Caudle placed second in the triple jump and David Olberding grabbed the silver in the javelin. While the girls 4x800 meter relay team of Avery Lewman, Carly Taylor, Heather Ronnebaum and Siebert took second and the team of Taylor, Ronnebaum, Siebert and Catherine Campbell took the silver in the 4x400 meter relay. Third place finishes were earned by Ronnebaum and Mary Colwell in the 1600 meter run and javelin in the girl’s competition and the boy’s action by Josh Caudle and Bradon Sowers in the 200 meter dash and 800 meter run.

Troy was led by one Top three finisher on the day as Holly Whetstine leapt her way to the win in the long jump behind a leap of 15'07.
