It was a battle of Doniphan County teams on Friday in Troy as the Trojans played host to the Doniphan West Mustangs for a baseball double dip and the Trojans came out with a pair of wins 13-7 and 15-5 in six innings.

The action started off with Troy taking the early lead in game one as Wil Smith knocked a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to give the Trojans the early 3-0 advantage. Doniphan West ran ahead in the top of the second as Jeffrey Watts hit home run and the Mustangs plated four runs to take the 4-3 lead. But Troy wasted little time taking control of the game again as the home run fest on the smaller Troy field continued with Tristan Speer, Nathan Gaarder and Tucker Morris blasting back to back to back homers in what was a seven run bottom of the second inning to give Troy the 10-4 lead. The Trojans grew that lead behind a three run fourth inning, in which Morris knocked his second homer of the day, giving them the 13-4 advantage. Doniphan West got three runs back including a run in the top of the seventh off an RBI double by Watts but came up short falling 13-7. Nathan Gaarder earned the win for Troy, while Hunter Idol took the loss for the Mustangs.

In game two it was much of the same for both teams, as Troy lead early with a four run bottom of the first inning off of a pair of two-run homers by Gaarder and Smith, giving them the 4-0 lead. Doniphan West got a run back in the top of the second as Idol hit a solo homer to left field and then took the lead in the top of the third inning with a four-run frame behind three singles, including a two RBI single by Garett Dunlap and a pair of walks, taking a 5-4 lead. Troy answered right back just like game one this time plating four runs in the bottom of the third with Gaarder and Morris hitting solo homers to get the inning started. Four more runs came in the fourth for the Trojans as Gaarder continued his strong day with his third homer of the game, another solo shot and Reid Greaser blasted a three-run shot later in the inning, while scoring two more in the fifth on a Speer two-run homer. Troy ended the game in the sixth inning as Luke Smith hit an RBI single and Tyler Franken who as pinch running for Chris Winkel came around to score to end the game 15-5.

Gaarder led the Troy offense going 3-4 with three homers, four RBI and three runs scored, while Wil Smith finished 2-3 with a homer, three runs scored and two RBI. Speer went the distance on the mound for the Trojans giving up five runs on six hits, four walks and struck out five earning the win, while Cooper Leach went the distance for Doniphan West and took the loss. Jeffrey Watts led the Mustangs offense in game two going 3-4 with a run scored, while Dunlap finished 1-2 with two RBI and a walk.

The sweep keeps Troy unbeaten on the season as the Trojans move to 6-0 on the year, while Doniphan West with the two losses falls to 2-2 on the season. Troy hits the diamond again on Monday at home against McLouth, while Doniphan West is also in action on Monday as they host Immaculata.
