Sabetha Boys & Girls Sweep Team Titles at Royal Valley Track Invite

The Sabetha Bluejays flew home with two more trophies for the case as both the boys and girls track teams claimed victory at the Royal Valley Invitational on Tuesday. Royal Valley and Jackson Heights also competed from the area registering multiple top notch performances.

Sabetha boys earned the meet title by 23 points earning 91 total points to finish first place over Osage City who had 68 points for second place. Royal Valley boys took fourth place and Jackson Heights finished seventh out of 10 teams. The lady Bluejays of Sabetha earned their win by nearly the same margin as the boys winning by 22.67 points after scoring 120 total points, topping St. Mary's who took second place with 97.33 points. Just like in the boys action Royal Valley and Jackson Heights girls took fourth and seventh place, respectively out of 10 teams.

Twenty-four Top three performances between the boys and girls led the way for the Sabetha Bluejays; those 24 Top three finishes included eight first place performances. For the lady Bluejays Meagan Garrett, Rhianna Becker and Heidi Heiniger each won a field event, capturing gold in the high jump (5'04), discus (111'04) and javelin (134'10), respectively. Heiniger won the javelin by over 14 feet, while Becker won the discus by over five feet. On the track Nicole Brey claimed victory in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.30. Both Heiniger and Brey each picked up a silver medal also as Heiniger took second in the 300 meter hurdles and Brey in the 100 meter dash.

The Sabetha boys were led by their relay teams as the 4x100 and 4x800 meter relay teams took first place with times of 46.93 and 9:03.35, while both Jacob Leuthold and Treavor Schmelzle won field events for the Bluejays. Leuthold tossed his way to the win in the shot put  with a toss of 47'03 and Schmelzle registered a toss of 167'00 to win the javelin.

Plenty of other Bluejays earned Top three performances on the day as the lady Bluejays relay teams took third place in all three relays. In the field events Courtney Plattner earned two medals, placing second in the long jump and third in the triple jump, while Mariah Huneke took second in the discus and Emily Meyer placed third in the javelin. For the boys Keegan Cox finished third in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, while Corbin Cox took third in the 800 meter run and in the field events Alex Edelman took second in the long jump, Matt Burdick third in the pole vault and Taylor Meyer third in the javelin.

The host Royal Valley Panthers had five first place finishes on the day on their home track, while posting 12 Top three showings. Macy Putnam brought home the gold in the girl’s 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.33, while taking second in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the 200 meter dash. Kate Hanson tossed her way to a win in the shot put with a throw of 32'10.25, while taking second in the javelin and third in the discus.

On the boy’s side of action for Royal Valley Eugene Masquat raced his way to a win in the 110 meter hurdles posting a time of 15.96, while also taking second in the 300 meter hurdles. In the field events Patrick Broxterman and Garret Hicks each won events winning the high jump (6'02) and the pole vault (10'00), respectively. Carley Shane and Lucas Broxterman both picked up Top three performances as Shane took second in the girl’s pole vault and Lucas Broxterman finished third in the boys long jump.

Jackson Heights Cobras didn't register any gold medals individually on the day but eight Top three finishers were had by Cobra competitors. Kaitlynn Little led the charge with a second place in the 3200 meter run and a third place in the 1600, while Becca Gibson was the only other lady Cobra to have a Top three finish, taking third in the shot put. Mason Hamilton dashed his way to third in the boy’s 200 meter dash, while Seth Holliday took second in the 800 meter run and Wyatt Roles finished third in the shot put. The Cobras boys 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays teams also grabbed second and third place finishes on the day.
