Vermillion Leads Area Boys Golf Performances at Nemaha Central Invite

Fifteen schools, including 12 area schools competed at Spring Creek golf course in Seneca on Thursday as Nemaha Central hosted the competition.

Wamego put together the best four-man team score together to claim the top spot on the day as a 318 score won the event. Clay Center followed in second place, finishing 17-strokes behind Wamego with a team score of 335. Vermillion (Frankfort/Centralia) had the best area team performance taking third place with a 338, only three strokes off of second. A pair of Big Seven League schools took fourth and fifth place with their four-man teams as Holton and Nemaha Central posted scores of 344 and 350. Finishing out the four-man teams scores were, Immaculata in sixth (352), Maur Hill-Mount Academy in seventh (364), Perry Lecompton eighth (378), Onaga ninth (385), Atchison 10th (388) and St. Mary's 11th (392).

A pair of Top 10 individual performances for Vermillion paced them to a third place team showing as Ryan Vernon and Danny Mueting both shot an 80 to take sixth and seventh place, respectively. An 86 and 91 rounded out the Vermillion team score as Jason Gore and Chase Boyce posted those rounds. Marshall Ruetti and Sean Rempe also competed for Vermillion notching rounds of 105 and 110.

Immaculata Raider, Dawson Schroeder had the best area individual performance shooting a 79 to take fifth, while Evin Wheaton finished ninth with a 81. Ian Wheaton and Jacob Murphy rounded out the Raiders four-man team score posting rounds of 93 and 99, respectively. Justin Varney also teed it up for Immaculata shooting a 132.

Atchison's, Gabe Julo took home eighth place individually with a 81 on the day. The rest of the Redmen squad posted rounds of 92, 103, 112 and 137 as Dustin Goodman, Jase Nelson, Derek Thompson and Katelyn Truman scored those rounds, respectively.

Perry Lecompton Kaw, Jacob Morgison rounded out the Top 10 individual performances at the Nemaha Central Invite shooting an 81 to take tenth place. Alex Haynes was on the only other Kaw to break 100, notching a round of 93, whlie Cooper Busey, Brett Koehler, Corey Shackelford and Christen Schmidt shot rounds of 101, 103, 108  and 112.

The host Nemaha Central were led by Zach Bradley who shot an 82, while Blake Mohney posted an 84 and rounds of 89 and 95 by Dylan Enneking and Tristan Allen helped the Thunder take fifth as a team. Austin Shepley and Michael Love also competed for Nemaha Central scoring rounds of 100 and 106, respectively.

Holton Wildcats took fourth as a team and were led by an 83 from Hayden May, while Braden Sides shot an 84, AJ Haussler scored an 86, along with one of the rounds of 91 by both Parker Sides and Nils Bergsten accounted for the four-man team Wildcat score. Kaden Brandt also competed Holton carding a 92 at Spring Creek golf course.

For the Onaga Buffalos it was rounds of 82, 89, 103 and 111 to give them their four-man team score as Tyler Fleming, Lucas Helget, Ben Kufahl and Trenton Ross carded those rounds. Maur Hill was led by Sam Sowers who posted a round of 88, while Christian Wessel who shot a 90, Pat Sullivan carded a 91 and Canyon Miller a 95 for the Ravens foursome. Isaac Henderson also hit the course for Maur Hill carding a 105 for the day.

Horton, Valley Heights, Linn and Hanover all had golfers in action also but did not field a full four-man team on the day. For the Horton Chargers Cameron Smith shot a 102, Rex Bruning a 113 and Rylee Rodvelt carded a 135, while Valley Heights got a 91 from Payton Manley, a 119 from Quentin Blaske and a 127 from Bryan Yungeberg. Andrew Meyer of Linn scored an 88 and Kalen Richardson posted a 104 for the Bulldogs, while Hanover had three competitors post rounds of 121, 123 and 127, as Stewart Graff, Aaron Hendrickson and Brandon Gerleve notched those rounds.
