KS Class 2A 2015 Regional Track - Washington County Boys Win Regionals & Girls Second to Lead Area Performances

Class 2A Regional Track Results - Washington County Regional

The start gun fired off on Friday for Regional track action across the State of Kansas and Washington County hosted Class 2A action for all the Northeast Kansas area teams.

It was the host Washington County Tigers stealing the show on the day as the boys brought home a Regional track title and the girls took second place as a team; the boys won the Regional crown by 95 points. Leading the way for Washington County was a three gold day for Dylan Hodgson who won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 2"00.82, 4:45.26 and 10:08.35. Seven more event titles were won by the Tiger boys as Brett Herrs won two of them, posting tosses of 50'10.25 and 139'04 to win the shot put and discus, while Jerrod Hoover won the high jump (6'02), Kyle Edgar took the gold in the long jump (19'09.50) and Justin Hoover place first in the pole vault (13'00). The Tigers 4x100 meter relay team also finished first after posting a time of 44.79.

Five silver medals were earned by the Washington County boys as Martin Walter, Jae Eaton, Huner Kier, Levi Gauby and Cole Thompson all took second in the high jump, shot put, discus, pole vault and 200 meter dash, respectively. Thompson added a fourth place in the 400 meter dash to his day, while Logan Kier in the discus and the Tigers 4x400 meter relay team both earned third place finishes. Colin Cudney and Neal Ehler also qualified for State after fourth place performances in the pole vault and javelin.

Leading the lady Tigers was Erin Alexander who with a toss of 41'01.50 won the shot put, while her teammate Jenna Henerberg finished right behind her in second place. Heidi Stegman added another silver for the lady Tigers coming in the pole vault, while Courtney Moore took third in the 100 meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles. Holly Delay, Courtney Bekemeyer and Jenna Habegger all earned spots at State for Washington County by taking third place in the high jump, fourth in the shot put and fourth in the pole vault, respectively and the lady Tigers 4x100 meter relay team also took fourth.

For the Jackson Heights Corbas it was a time of 3:33.86 that highlighted the day as the boys 4x400 meter relay team claimed the Regional title with that time. Both Seth Holliday and Wyatt Olberding each earned second place finishes coming in the 800 and triple jump, while the boy’s 4x800 meter relay took a third place finish and the 4x100 meter relay placed fourth. Peter Rupnicki qualified for State in a pair of events after placing fourth in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. In the girl’s action, Kaitlynn Little picked up a third place and fourth in the 800 and 1600 meter runs, while Abbi Williams grabbed a silver in the high jump.

A leap of 4'10 in the girl’s high jump won the Regional title for Tamara Drinkard of Valley Falls as she lead the Dragons performances on the day. Emily Nottingham picked up a second place finish in the 100 meter dash and took third in the 200, while Kalynn Sample finished fourth in the 400. The lady Dragons 4x100 meter relay team also earned spots at State in 2A by both registering third place finishes. The lone Valley Falls boy’s representative to earn a spot at State is Dallas Clift as he took fourth in the discus.

The Chargers of Jefferson County North will have multiple gals and guys competing at State. For the lady Chargers both the 4x800 and 4x400 meter relay teams qualified for State after second and fourth place finishes, while Carle Noll took second in the girls triple jump, Carissa McAfee place third in the 3200 meter run and Julie Schrick finished fourth in the 800 meter run. For the boys Brayden Summers second place in the 1600 meter run led the way, while Cole Bryant took third in the 400 meter dash and Joel Abel and Dimitri Tullis each placed fourth in the high and triple jump.

A time of 16.46 by Anna Moore of McLouth claimed the Regional title in the girls 100 meter hurdles, while Meaghan Jackson was the lone other lady Bulldog to earn a spot at State by placing third in the triple jump. Remington Courter led the McLouth boys by placing second in the long jump, while Jack Arnett finished third in the 110 meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles and Tristan Funk placed fourth in the 1600 meter run.

Garrett Ames qualified for State in two events for the Onaga Buffalos as he finished second in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, while Michael Bliss took second in the boy’s javelin and Cheyenne Brunkrow behind her third place finish qualified for State in the girls shot put.

Troy will have a pair of representative's at State as Holly Whetstine took third in the 100 meter dash and Lexi Norris place third in the triple jump to earn spots at State.
