Jeff County North Sneaks Away With Win over Christ Prep
By Jonny Kane

With the game winding down and Jefferson County North down six, Charger quarterback Bryce Noll had only one receiver in mind.

Sophomore Brayden Summers.

Noll connected with Summers on a two-point conversion try after the two connected on a 30-yard touchdown with 12 seconds left, and the Chargers snuck away with a 22-20 win over Christ Prep Academy on homecoming Friday night in Winchester.

The ballgame started off looking like it was going to be a shootout. JCN took the opening kick and needed just four and a half minutes to find the end zone as Noll ran it in on a sneak from a yard out to give the Chargers a 6-0 lead.

Christ Prep responded as they needed just four minutes to find pay dirt on a Tanner Metzdorf QB sneak to tie the game up at six.

That score held all the way into halftime as penalties and missed opportunities stalled drives for both sides in the first half.

The beginning of the third quarter was just like the start of the ballgame as the two teams traded scores.

Christ Prep started things off by taking the opening kick of the second half and finding the end zone on a Metzdorf 22-yard TD run. The conversion failed, and Christ Prep led 12-6 with 8:23 left in the third.

JCN wasted no time in answering the score as Noll found the end zone for the second time of the night, this time on a 52-yard TD run up the sideline. Noll tacked on the two-point try to give the Chargers a 14-12 lead with 5:46 left in the third.

Neither team was able to finish off a drive for the rest of the third quarter or most of the fourth, but with 49 seconds left Metzdorf found junior receiver TJ Carver on a 30-yard TD pass to give the Patriots a 20-14 lead, and what looked like a win.

But, on the ensuing kick, JCN sophomore Ridge Robertson returned the football 48 yards to the Christ Prep 42 yard line to set up the late-game heroics.

Noll finished with 132 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. He completed nine of his 11 passes for 90 yards and one score. Summers caught five passes for 62 yards and a TD.

Metzdorf ended his night with two scores on the ground, while going 10-for-18 through the air for 204 yards and a TD. Josh Baker reeled five catches for 85 yards, while Carver caught two passes for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Jefferson County North (3-3, 1-1 district) hosts Valley Falls next Friday in a non-district game. Christ Prep (2-4, 0-1 district) hosts Drexel in a district contest.
