Northeast Kansas League Announces All-League Football Honors

Another football season has come to a close in the Northeast Kansas League and it was a season with four teams making the playoffs and some highly competitive contests throughout the year. With the year in the rear view mirror the NEKL All-League honors have been handed out. 

Pleasant Ridge Rams came out on top in the NEKL this year finishing 6-0 in League action, while finishing the season 8-2 and made the 3A playoffs after winning their District. On offense three Ram seniors earned first team All-League honors as Nick Holmes got the nod at quarterback, Brandon Broddle at slot back and Dustin Graham at offensive line. Four more guys earned second team offense honors as seniors, Jagar Haack and Brennan Hollinger each got second team at runningback and wide receiver, while juniors, Elliot Clay and Will Douthitt both earned second team All-League at tight end and offensive line. 

On defense for the Rams five guys picked up first team All-League honors with seniors, Graham, Jared Schmalsteig, Jacob Gum and Hollinger got the nod at defensive end, linebacker, corner and defensive specialist, while junior, Nick Stiver earned first team at defensive line. Three more guys picked up second team All-League on defense for Pleasant Ridge with Douthitt, Haack and Broddle getting the honors at defensive line, linebacker and corner. Nick Holmes also picked up second team All-League returner honors and junior, Nick Bridges earned honorable mention at linebacker. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy Ravens finished second in the NEKL this year with a 5-1 League record and 7-3 mark overall making the 3A playoffs for the second straight year. Leading the charge this year was senior, Harry Trotter for the Ravens and he earned first team All-League runningback on offense, while his sophomore teammate, Cole Harris earned first team on the offensive line and junior, Kevin Lykins picked up second team All-League honors along the o-line. On defense, Trotter once again was named first team All-League coming at linebacker, while junior, Arthur Rocha was named first team kicker. Lykins picked up second team honors at defensive end and Rocha was second team punter, while junior, Nic Caudle was named honorable mention at safety. 

The Jackson Heights Cobras qualified for the 2-1A playoffs after winning their District and won a playoff game making it to the Regional round this year finishing the season 8-2 and 4-1 in NEKL for third in the League. Seniors, Zane Richter and Wyatt Roles each were named first team All-League offense at tight end and offensive line. While three more Cobras picked up second team All-League offensive honors with sophomore, Brady Holliday at runningback; junior, Mason Hamilton at slot back and senior, Auston Sauvage at o-line, with senior, Caleb Sullivan earning honorable mention on the offensive line. Richter also picked up first team All-League on defense at safety, while his teammate junior, Mason Thomas earned first team at corner and junior, Wyatt Olberding got the nod for second team on defense at linebacker. 

Oskaloosa wrapped up the season 3-2 in NEKL play and 4-5 on the season and had four guys earn first team All-League honors. Senior, Kyle Hopkins picked up first team All-League honors at runningback and linebacker, while junior, Cooper Thurston was named first team offensive line and senior, Scott Coates got the nod for first team at corner. Seniors, Justin Cross and Tommy Molder both earned second team All-League honors at defensive line and kicker, respectively, while senior, Ben Harvey picked up honorable mention honors at linebacker. 

The Jefferson County North Chargers made a trip to the 2-1A playoffs for the first time since 2012, finishing the year 6-4 and 3-2 in NEKL action. Sophomore, Bradyen Summers and senior, Elijah Meyer each picked up first team All-League honors for the Chargers on offense at wide receiver and offensive line, while Meyer also was named first team defense at defensive end and senior, Kyle Noll first team defensive line, along with senior, Bryce Noll first team punter. Bryce Noll also was named second team All-League quarterback, while Kyle Noll picked up second team o-line and senior, Cole Bryant second team offensive specialist. Senior, Jake Brickell earned second team All-League on defense as a defensive specialist and sophomore, Ridge Robertson got honorable mention at safety. 

Both McLouth and Valley Falls wrapped up their season with 1-8 records and 1-5 marks in NEKL action. McLouth Bulldog senior, Sergio Hernandez picked up first team All-League honors at returner, while junior, Brady Troupe was named second team corner and junior, Ricky Morris earned honorable mention honors at defensive end for the Bulldogs. 

For the Dragons, senior, Blake Shipley earned second team All-League honors at offensive line, while senior, Ty Gatzemeyer picked up second team honors at defensive end and senior, Marty Gatzemeyer got second team at safety. Senior, Jarrett Wildeman earned honorable mention honors at wide receiver for Valley Falls. 

The Horton Chargers struggled on the season finishing 0-9 and 0-6 in NEKL but had senior, Derek Richardson earn first team All-League honors as an offensive specialist. Senior, Cole Wolf picked up second team All-League honors at defensive line, while senior, Cameron Smith was named honorable mention honors at quarterback.
