Marysville Wins Mission Valley Wrestling Invite, While Several Other Area Schools Compete

The wrestling season started for many teams on Saturday and several area schools hit the mats on Saturday at the Mission Valley Invitational with Marysville headlining the area performances by winning the tournament. 

Marysville Bulldogs behind 225.5 total points on the day on the tournament easily finishing 52.5 points ahead of Rossville who finished second at the tournament. Doniphan West, Jeff West and Perry Lecompton all competed at the Mission Valley Invitational, also finishing ninth, tenth and eleventh, respectively as a team out of 13 teams. 

A quartet of first place finishes paced Marysville on their way to a first place team finish at the Mission Valley Invitational. Jacob Mintzmyer (170lbs), Chris Deters (132lbs), Ethan Crownover (120lbs) and Chance Hight (113lbs) all posted 3-0 records to earn first place finishes for the Bulldogs in their respective weight classes. Mintzmyer picked up pinfall wins in 19 and 44 seconds and then won in his championship match by a 10-6 decision, while Deters had pinfall wins of 22 and 18 seconds and won is championship match by a 6-0 decision. Crownover had three pinfall wins all under one minute to win his weight classes, posting wins in 58, 36 and 43 seconds, while Hight had a pair of pinfall wins in 35 seconds and 1:25 and won his championship match by foreit. 

Gabe Capp (145lbs) notched a 3-1 record on the day grabbing a second place finish, while Jakob Snellings (106lbs), Skylar Widmer (126lbs), Jacob Stryker (160lbs), Nick Anderson (182lbs) Caleb Vogelsberg (195lbs) and Tristin Detimore (220lbs) all finished third in their weight classes. Derek Roever (138lbs) brought home a fourth place for the Bulldogs. 

Doniphan West Mustangs were led by Garret Dunlap who had a 4-0 day to win the 160lbs weight class, picking up three pinfall wins in 1:22, 1:38 and 33 seconds, while winning the championship match by a 3-2 decision. Zeb Speer had a 3-2 record at the Mission Valley Invitational for the Mustangs and finished fourth at 152lbs. Kody Collins also placed for the Mustangs taking fifth at 182lbs after going 2-2 on the mats at the Mission Valley Invitational. 

A third place and two fourth place finishes led the Jeff West Tigers performances on the mats on Saturday as Austin Michaelis (113lbs) finished third after a 3-1 record on the day and both Shane Kelly (106lbs) and Nich Reeb (160lbs) each earned fourth place finishes as Kelly notched a 3-2 record and Reeb finished 2-2 on the day.

Three Perry Lecompton Kaws registered top five finishes in their weight classes at the Mission Valley Invitational to open up the wrestling season. Kyle Bonham behind a 3-1 record took third at 285lbs, while Peyton Kahle went 2-2 and took fourth at 145lbs and Mason Rodie finished 1-4 and placed fifth at 195lbs.
