After opening the wrestling season on the mats with a pair of dual wins against Atchison and Hayden earlier in the week the Sabetha Bluejay grapplers hit the mats for their first tournament action of the season on Saturday competing in the Riley County Invitational.

The Bluejays finished sixth out of the six teams competing as they struggled to register a win against tough competition on the day. Sabetha fell in their duals losing 45-27 to Smokey Valley, falling 47-27 to Clay Center, lost 50-27 to Bonner Springs, fell 66-18 to Andover and lost 48-34 to the host Riley County.

A trio of Bluejays won three matches on mats on Saturday as Seth Harrell (126lbs), Kamden Brownlee (152lbs) and Elliott Strahm (285lbs) each won three bouts. Harrell had two pinfall wins in 1:35 and 58 seconds at 126lbs, while also winning by a 12-2 major decison. For Brownlee it was a pair of tight decision wins 6-4 and 4-0 and also a pinfall win in 29 seconds, while Strahm had all three of his wins come via pinfall in 50, 36 and 19 seconds.

Brendon Rokey (182lbs), Cauy Rokey (170lbs) and Payton Strahm (195lbs) all registered a pair of wins on the mats for Sabetha, while Brandon Brownlee (132lbs), Trei Harrell (138lbs) and Tanner Ukele (160lbs) each notched one win on the day.

The wrestling season continues on Thursday for Sabetha at the Rock Port (Missouri) duals.
