KBCA High School Basketball Rankings Dec. 7th - 15 Area Teams Ranked

The basketball season is underway and many teams have at least one game under their belt with a few to start their seasons this week, while some teams have multiple games in the books already. The KBCA has released a new set of rankings and 15 area teams find themselves ranked this week. 

Four boys and four girls Twin Valley League teams are ranked this week in Classes 1A-Division II and Division I as the same teams in the preseason rankings check in again in the polls. 

In Class 1A-DI the Hanover Wildcat boys started the season with a 52-35 win over Axtell on Saturday and are 1-0 and remain ranked number one, while Doniphan West Mustang boys remain ranked third in the 1A-DI polls after a 2-0 start to the season. Doniphan West opened the year beating St. Joseph Christian 60-42 last Thursday and also beat KC Christian 63-53 on Saturday both on the road. The Centralia boys who open the season 2-0 with two tight wins at Valley Heights 53-51 and at Valley Falls 44-43 jump up in the polls this week to sixth, up two spots. 

On the girls side of the rankings in 1A-DI the lady Panthers of Centralia moved down two spots to fourth after a 1-1 start to the season beating Valley Heights 66-52 on the road to start the year but falling to a ranked 2A school in Valley Falls 50-39 in their second game of the year. The Hanover lady Wildcats won a tough overtime contest against Axtell to start the year 1-0 winning 57-54 and remain ranked eighth this week. 

The Axtell lady Eagles also remain in the rankings coming in at eighth again in the 1A-DII polls after a 2-1 start to the year falling to Hanover in overtime, but beating Marysville 77-62 to open the year and handling Lewiston 57-25. While the Wetmore Cardinal girls are ahead of Axtell in the rankings again this week checking in at sixth yet again after a 1-0 start to the year with a win over Lewiston 57-34. In 1A-DII boys rankings the Axtell Eagles fall down the rankings seven spots to tenth after a 1-2 start to the season in which they beat Marysville 80-69 and lost to Hanover and Lewiston (44-43). 

Valley Falls lady Dragons started the season beating a tough Centralia team and remain ranked third in Class 2A after their 1-0 start to the season. While the Washington County lady Tigers topped Clifton-Clyde 57-30 to open their year 1-0 and remain ranked ninth this week. The Tiger boys are also ranked again this week remaining at fifth in 2A after beating Clifton-Clyde 70-34 to open the year. The Jackson Heights Cobra boys jump into the 2A rankings this week checking in at ninth in the polls this week after beating Immaculata 65-36 to open the year. 

Both Sabetha Bluejay teams opened the year with wins at home over Holton as the girls beat the Wildcats 53-23 and the Bluejay boys won 56-24 and both are in the rankings again this week. The girls remain ranked fourth while the boys move up one spot to third in Class 3A. 

Class 4A-DII the Holton lady Wildcats are the only area team in the rankings as they fell to Sabetha to open the season and are 0-1 and check in at tenth in the polls this week down four spots. 

The basketball season continues to roll along with the first full week of action starting this week.
