It was a battle of ranked teams out of the Twin Valley League on Tuesday night in Centralia and the Panthers who edge Axtell in both the girls and boys games to earn the sweep on the night. Centralia girls held on for the 56-55 win, while the Centralia boys notched the 50-43 win to remain unbeaten.

The night started off with Axtell girls taking the early lead and holding it at 15-14 after the first quarter, but a 5-0 run to start the second gave Centralia their first lead at 17-15 and the Panthers would outscore Axtell 16-8 in the second to lead 30-23 at the half. The Centralia lead dwindled down in the third quarter and was only four headed into the fourth. Axtell continued to battle back chipping away at the lead down to the final seconds of the ballgame with Kiersten Talbot hitting a late three-pointer to make a one-point game but time expired shortly after and Centralia held off Axtell for the 56-55 win.

Katie Glatczak paced the Panthers in the win posting 16 points, while Cassidy Haufler tallied 14 points and was 6-8 from free throw line, while the team was only 16-28 from the charity stripe. Chelsea Huerter notched 11 points for the Panthers hitting a pair of three's in the second quarter and Mayda Stallbaumer finished with 12 points making plenty of tough plays in the paint to earn her "Community National Bank" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA. With the win Centralia girls improved to 2-1 on the season.

The loss makes Axtell 2-2 on the year as they were led Courtney Heinen who continues to light up the scoreboard posting 20 points for the Eagles. Anna and Megan Buessing each chipped 11 points for Axtell, while Talbot finished with 10.

The boys varsity contest proved to be just as action packed as the girls affair with Centralia working past Axtell 50-43. Back and forth to start the game in the first quarter lead to a 10-9 first quarter lead for the Panthers, but a 6-0 run by Axtell pushed them to the lead for majority of the second quarter but Centralia battled back and held the 22-21 lead at halftime. The Eagles would push back in the third quarter and with strong defense in the frame gained the lead and led 36-34 after three frames. The lead would change hands multiple times in the fourth quarter but Centralia took lead down the stretch and made enough plays for the win. Both teams had opportunities from the free throw line but missed on those chances in the final frame finishing the gam 8-22 for Centralia and 8-23 for Axtell.

Centralia with the win moved to 3-0 on the season and was led by Braden Deters who finished with 15 points, while Trenton Stallbaumer added 10 points hitting a pair of three's and making some big plays to earn the "Community National Bank" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA. Both Dustin Talley and John Johnson each added nine points.

Axtell with the loss fell to 1-3 on the season and was led by Colton Buessing who scored 18 points, while Adam Kuckelman finished with eight points.

Both teams hit the court again on Friday night in TVL action as Axtell is set to host Linn and Centralia will host Wetmore.
