Over the past few years it had been some close contests between Wamego and Nemaha Central (previously as Nemaha Valley) on the basketball court but this time around each game proved to be more of one-sided affair with a split on the night in Seneca. The lady Thunder sounded and rolled to a 61-40 win to remain unbeaten on the year, while Wamego boys used a hot start to the game to propel them to the 59-41 win over Nemaha Central.

Tight early in the contest until Nemaha Central put things together and went on a run to end the first quarter up 15-6 using balanced scoring as six different players had a bucket in the first quarter of action for the Thunder. The lead continued to grow heading into halftime as Nemaha Central led 31-17 at intermission and went on to grab the 61-40 win behind balanced scoring on the night as 10 different gals finished with two or more points in the contest.

Nemaha Central senior, Rachael Baumgartner put together her best game of short season thus far notching 16 points with six points in each of the second and third quarters, earning her "Community National Bank" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA. Sophomore, Allison Rottinghaus provided a spark off the bench for the Thunder hitting a pair of three's and finishing with nine points, while both Maggie Hammes and Kaley Dalinghaus each chipped eight points in the win, moving the Thunder to 3-0 on the season.

In the loss Wamego was led by Southern Illinois commit, Caitlyn Claussen who notched a 20 point performance, while Tessa Seeberger scored nine points as the lady Red Raiders fell to 0-3 to start the year.

The boys contest was one-sided in the first quarter and Nemaha Central was never able to overcome the early deficit to Wamego in the matchup. The Red Raiders came out firing on all cyclinders draining shots from everywhere on the floor and limiting the Thunder to minimal shot opportunities in the first quarter as it was 20-4 Wamego leading after the first. Nemaha Central started to settle in the second getting some free throws early in the quarter to chip away at the lead and behind a 12-13 performance at the line in the first half and a few buckets cut the led to six late in half and made it only a nine point game, 31-22 at halftime.

The second half Wamego found a bit of a stride again and Nemaha Central struggled in the third being outscored 16-8 and with that the Red Raiders would push themselves to the road win 59-41, snapping a five-game losing streak to Nemaha.

Wamego was led in the win by junior sharpshooter, Dillon Blain who posted his second 30 point game of the season in just three games, scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter, while Seth Nordberg posted a 16 point performance helping the Red Raiders improve to 3-0.

The loss puts Nemaha Central at 2-1 on the season and in the loss the Thunder were led by Trenton Henry who scored 15 points earning him "Community National Bank" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA. Senior, Luke Holthaus also finished with double figures posting 11 points in the contest.

Season rolls on for Nemaha Central on Tuesday, December 15th as they will host Hiawatha in Big Seven League action.
