JCN Sweeps in Battle of the Chargers

The Jefferson County North girls basketball team survived a slow start Friday night, knocking off Horton 45-33 in Winchester.

After the two teams combined for just six first quarter points, the Lady Chargers in green found a rhythm on offense scoring 12 second quarter points to lead 14-10 at the break.

JCN exploded out of halftime scoring 19 points behind seven from sophomore Ravyn Jobbins to take a commanding 33-21 lead into the fourth quarter, which proved to be enough.

The Lady Chargers of JCN moved back to an even .500 on the year at 7-7, while also moving to 5-5 in the Northeast Kansas League. Horton dropped to 7-7 on the year as well, and 5-5 in the NEKL.  

JCN: Ravyn Jobbins – 9, Jentry Seichepine – 9, Carley Elias – 8, Annabelle Vaught – 8, Julie Schrick – 5, Kaitlyn Schneider – 3, Gabbi George – 2.

Fresh off their new No. 10 ranking in Class 2A, the Jefferson County North boys used a 19-point third quarter to grind out a 53-38 win over Horton Friday night.

Both teams started strong offensively with JCN taking a 15-13 advantage after one, behind six points from senior Bryce Noll.

 The second quarter was a struggle for both sides combining for just 15 points, but JCN forced four turnovers to take a 23-20 lead into halftime.

Out of the break the Jeff North offense came alive with Noll tallying eight third quarter points leading JCN to a 19 point frame to put the game out of reach.

JCN (11-3, 8-2) heads to Immaculata (4-10, 3-7) Monday for a NEKL showdown, while Horton (7-7, 6-4) hosts the Raiders Tuesday.
