KBCA High School Basketball Rankings Feb. 8th - 15 Area Teams Ranked

Only three weeks of the regular season remain in high school basketball in Kansas and teams are looking to put together strong finishes to the regular season to gear up for the postseason. The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released new rankings and 15 area teams are in the Top 10 rankings from Class 4A-DII to 1A-DII. 

In Class 1A-DII the Axtell lady Eagles have been in the rankings the whole season and been stuck at tenth in the polls for most of the year but this week they move up one spot to ninth in the rankings with their 13-3 record. Eagles picked up a win over Onaga last week. 

Five Twin Valley League teams continue to be in the rankings in Class 1A-DI with four in the Top three of the polls. The boy’s rankings continue to feature Doniphan West, Centralia and Hanover in the one, two and three spots but some changes have come this week as the Mustangs have taken over the number one spot with an 11-3 record after wins over Linn and Onaga last week. Centralia boys remained at number two this week despite losses to Rock Creek and Washington County to put them at 9-5 on the season. While, Hanover fell to number three this week, falling from the number one spot for the first time this year. The Wildcats beat Wetmore last week to move to 11-4 on the season. 

In the girls rankings in Class 1A-DI the lady Panthers of Centralia have won 12-straight beating Rock Creek and Washington County last week to move to 13-1 on the season and remain number one this week. The Hanover girls fell out of the rankings last week but are back in the poll this week at ninth with a 10-5 record have just edging Wetmore last week. 

Leading the charge for the area in Class 2A has been the Valley Falls girls all year and the Dragons remain ranked second this week with a perfect 14-0 record after beating Oskaloosa and Pleasant Ridge last week. While a new area team has jumped into the girls 2A polls as the lady Mustangs of Valley Heights who are 12-4 on the year come in at tenth in the polls this week. Valley Heights picked up wins against Troy and Blue Valley-Randolph last week and have won six in a row and 11 of their last 12 games. 

The 2A boy’s poll again features Troy and Jefferson County North this week who are both up one spot in the poll. The Troy boys sit at 15-1 on the season after wins over Frankfort and Valley Heights last week and come in at seventh in the polls this week, moving up one spot the last two weeks. The JCN boys jumped into the polls last week and are up to ninth this week after beating Horton and McLouth last week to move to 11-3 on the year. 

Both Sabetha girls and boys continue to highlight the Class 3A poll for the area as they both check in at third in the polls again this week each with 13-1 records on the season after wins against Jeff West last week. The number five spot in both the boys and girls polls in Class 3A also house area teams as Royal Valley boys remain ranked fifth and the Nemaha Central girls jump up four spots to fifth this week. The Panthers boys are 14-1 on the season after wins over ACCHS and Hiawatha last week, while the lady Thunder sit at 12-2 on the year with a win against Jeff West last week. 

After falling out of the polls last week the lady Wildcats of Holton are back in the Class 4A-DII polls this week checking in at tenth with a 9-6 record after wins over Perry Lecompton and ACCHS last week. 

Many League races are still to be decided in the coming weeks and Sub-State seeding is still up for grabs as the action continues on the basketball court this week.
