Sabetha Wins 3A Boys Golf Regional & Four Other Area Schools Sending Golfers to State

After postponing the action from earlier this week due to rain it was time to tee it up in Seneca at Spring Creek golf course for Class 3A Regional boys golf action on Wednesday and several area performs put together strong showings. 

Three years removed from their 3A State boys golf State title the Sabetha Bluejays golf team is going to State again after missing out as a team last year and taking third at State two years ago. The Bluejays earned a team spot at State by winning the Class 3A Regional hosted by Nemaha Central on Wednesday. A 329 team score gave the Bluejays the Regional title by 30-strokes. Leading the way for Sabetha was Jesser Burger who behind a 77 won the Regional title individually. Three other Bluejays finished in the Top 10 placing fifth, sixth and seventh with rounds of 84, 85 and 87 as Reese Lierz, Garrett Scott and Connor Epple scored those rounds. Jonah Montogmery and Noah Garber each competed for Sabetha also posting rounds of 96 and 99.

The Top two teams at each 3A Regional qualify for State and finishing in second behind Sabetha was Maur Hill-Mount Academy to earn a team spot at State. A team score of 359 was good for second place at Regionals by 17-strokes. Daniel DeLuna led the Ravens taking third at Regionals with a round of 80. Canyon Miller, Christian Wessel, Isaac Henderson, Nolan Dulac and Corbin Pulido also competed for Maur Hill carding rounds of 90, 94, 95, 99 and 126. 

Marysville Bulldog, Joe Ellenbecker earned a second finish at Regionals with a 79 to individually qualify for the 3A State tournament.

ACCHS Tigers are sending a pair of golfers to State as Patrick Sullivan and Sam Sowers shot rounds of 82 and 87 to qualify for State individually after fourth and eighth place finishes. 

An 89 for Nemaha Central Thunder, Dalton Schmelzle earned him a tie for ninth place and a spot at State. 

Area golfers will hit the links for one final time this season in Class 3A next Monday, May 23rd in Salina at the Salina Municipal golf course.
