Seneca Gets Back Into Win Column With Two Road Wins Over Oskaloosa

Looking to bounce back from a pair of losses on Sunday Seneca travelled to Oskaloosa for the final NEKL matchups of the year that count in the League standings and went home with two road wins. Seneca won game one 11-0 in five innings and took game two 9-6.

In the first inning Seneca snagged the early 1-0 lead behind a Cody Rottinghaus RBI single and didn't look back in game one scoring two in the third, five in the fourth and three in the fifth to secure the 11-0 five inning win. Seneca out-hit Oskaloosa in the contest 14-4 and was led by the bats of Kurtis Niehues and Dalton Hiltibrand who both went 3-4. Niehues had a home run, double, five RBI and three runs scored, while Hiltibrand notched a double and three runs scored on the night. Rottinghaus and Neil Sudbeck each had two hits apiece as all but one guy for Seneca recorded a hit. That one guy made an impact in another way as Dylan Schraad earned the win on the mound going all five innings giving up zero runs on four hits and a walk. Oskaloosa had two of their four hits come from the bat of Hunter Reed.

Seneca snagged the early lead in game two with a single and three walks in the first inning and led 1-0, but Oskaloosa responded in the bottom of the first with two runs to take the lead and made it 4-1 by scoring a run in the second and third innings. In the top of the fourth Seneca tied the game up at 4-4 and then took the lead in the top of the sixth on a solo home run by Schraad. Four more runs were scored in the sixth for Seneca on an RBI single by Tristan Allen and a three-run homer by Niehues to make it 9-4. Oskaloosa tried for a late comeback in the bottom of the seventh but were able to only get two runs to finish the contest with Seneca taking the win 9-6.

Hiltibrand led the offense for Seneca in game two going 4-5 with an RBI and two run scored, while Schraad who didn't have a hit in game one went 3-4 in game two with a home run, double, RBI and two runs scored and Niehues added a 2-3 game with a homer, three RBI's and a run scored. On the mound four Seneca pitchers combined for the win. Oskaloosa was led by Mitch Sullivan at the plate in game two as he went 3-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Jared Miller took the loss in three innings of relief for Ethan Burghart who tossed four innings.

The wins move Seneca to 20-6 on the season, while Oskaloosa fell to 9-19 on the year. Seneca continues their season on Wednesday night in Wathena as they vie for the NEKL title against Doniphan County at 7:00pm. (Game will be broadcasted on 103.9 KNZA & 92.1 KMZA) While, Oskaloosa now turns their attention to Zone tournament action at the AAA level, as they will compete at the Zone hosted by Ottawa.
