Twin Valley League Teams Lead Top Performers at Marysville Cross Country Invite

The cross country got underway on Saturday for several area teams as part of the Marysville Invitational and the top performances on the day had a heavy Twin Valley League flavor. 

In the boy’s competition, Riley County took first place while a trio of TVL schools in Axtell, Frankfort and Washington County followed in second, third and fourth, respectively. Five other schools field full boys teams as the host Marysville took fifth as a team, followed by Centralia in sixth, Valley Heights in seventh, Nemaha Central eighth and Horton in ninth. 

On the girl’s side of action Riley County also snagged first place, followed by Centralia in second with Troy taking third and Washington County fourth as only four schools field girl’s full teams on the day. 

The top individual performance in the girl’s race on the day belonged to freshman, Oliva Kuckelman who ran to a time of 22:32.79 to take the gold on the day. While the Axtell boys had a trio of guys finish in the Top 10 led by defending 1A State champ, Burke Deters who finished third with a time of 18:11. Oliver Schmitz and Quinn Buessing added eighth and ninth place finishes with times of 19:02 and 19:08. 

Top boys time of 17:37 belonged to Frankfort Wildcat, Broderic Shirley who won by 17 seconds, while his teammates Colton Parthemer and Garret Dalinghaus notched finishes of 14th and 19th, respectively. 

Five Top 20 finishers on the day paced the way for the Centralia Panthers as the lady Panthers who finished second as a team had the second and third best times on the day with Sadie and Tamra Jones posting times of 23:11.61 and 23:22.71, respectively. Emma Holthaus and Courtney Huerter also notched Top 20 finishes for the lady Panthers placing 11th and 20th, while in the boys competition Dylan Boeckman behind a time of 18:29 earned fifth place. 

Washington County also registered five runners on the day with Top 20 finishes as Wood, Meyer and Kinsbury finished 13th, 17th and 19th in the girl’s race and both Miller and Simmons tallied finishes of 15th and 16th in the boy’s race for the Tigers. 

Valley Heights was led by a second place finish by Adrian Pishny who raced to a time of 17:54, while Ilexus Rose finished 12th in the girls race for the Mustangs. 

Troy Trojans were led by three Top 20 finishes in the girls race including a sixth place finish for Holly Williams who posted a time of 24:33.58, while Brylee Wiedmer and Alyssa Schmille finished 15th and 18th. 

Horton Charger, Deja Tilden snagged the only Top 20 finish for Horton posting a time of 25:25.85 to finish 10th. 

The host Marysville had one Top 20 finisher as a time of 18:54 by Backus was good for seventh place.
