Area Cross Country Runners Compete at Rim Rock Invitational

One of the largest cross country competitions in the State every year the Rim Rock Invitational in Lawrence featuring multiple races spilt up by classifications saw some area runners compete in the action on Saturday. 

The Blue race featured Hiawatha, Perry Lecompton, Jeff West and Pleasant Ridge runners on the day in competition at Rim Rock. 

Hiawatha Red Hawks led the area performances and it was a third place performance by Elizabeth Kettler that led the way as she posted a time of 19:45.80 to take third only a little over four seconds away from second place. The lady Red Hawks as a team snagged seventh place out of 34 teams. Mary Rosa and Emma Williams each registered Top 60 performances placing 51st and 57th. Hiawatha boys earned 23rd as a team out of 40 teams in the Blue race lead by Gavin Lierz who placed 60th out of 304 runners. 

A Top 20 finish in the girl’s race by Lexia Jamison led the Perry Lecompton Kaws at Rim Rock as she notched a time of 21:08.90 to finish 16th place out of 251 runners in the Blue girl’s race. Josh Mitts had the best Perry Lecompton boys finish placing 126th. 

Jeff West lady Tigers were led by Macy Tucker in the girl’s race as she took 66th place. Tigers best boys finish came by Collin Ellis placing 253th. 

Pleasant Ridge ran only in the boy’s race and finished 15th out of 40 teams in the Blue race competition. A 20th place finish by Clayton Price with a time of 17:46.90 led the Rams on the day. Luke Oatney added 44th place finish for the Rams. 

In the Crimson race Atchison competed from the area. In the girls race Emily Jaloma grabbed a 64th place finish for the best lady Redmen performance on the day as there were 274 runners in the girls race. In the boys competition 298 runners ran in the Crimson race and leading the way for Atchison was Matthew Sowers who placed 154th.
