Peru State Student Athlete Receives Champions of Character Award

Peru State women's basketball and women's golf student-athlete Katie Potter of has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference recipient of the Dr. LeRoy Walker Champions of Character award.
 
Potter noted she is very honored to be named as the HAAC's Walker Award winner.  Potter said, “I have been blessed with having such an outstanding support system throughout my collegiate career with my family, coaches, teammates, professors, and friends.”  In terms of her activities, Potter added, “It is very important to me to give back to the community and to serve others, especially when you are in a leadership role.”
 
The NAIA Dr. LeRoy Walker Champions of Character Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the NAIA and was created as part of the NAIA's association with the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance (CSTA), a group including ten other organizations from the sports world that seek to recognize and promote sportsmanship.
 
The award was created to honor Dr. LeRoy Walker, a former president of the NAIA and President Emeritus of the United States Olympic Committee, where he served as president through the 1996 Summer Games. The award recognizes a current student-athlete who has demonstrated outstanding athletic achievement, campus and community leadership and embracing the five core character values of the NAIA Champions of Character initiative, athletic achievement and future ambition.
