Marysville Wins Mission Valley Wrestling Invite, Perry Lecompton Takes Second

High school wrestling season is underway and five area schools were in action on Saturday at the Mission Valley Invitational. 

The Marysville Bulldogs dominated the competition taking home first place at the tournament with 246 total points behind 14 Top four finishes on the day. Perry Lecompton Kaws snagged second place as a team totaling 129 points, while Chapman, Shawnee Mission East and Highland Park finished out the Top five team finishes out of 16 schools in action. Doniphan West registered 57 points to finished tenth, while Jeff West and Oskaloosa each tied for 15th with 30 points on the day. 

Six individual first place finishes on the day paced the Marysville Bulldogs as they opened the wrestling season with a tournament title. Joey Bockin posted a 3-0 day at 113lbs with two pinfall wins and a 14-12 decision victory, while Ethan Crownover won 126lbs with a pinfall win, MD 12-3 victory and 10-5 decision win. At 152lbs Storm Slupianek claimed first place nocthing three pinfall victories, while Jacob Mintzmyer took first at 170lbs going 3-0 also with two pinfall wins. Nick Ackerman (195lbs) and Seth Mooradian (285lbs) each earned first place also going 2-0 and 3-0, respectively. Ackerman won both his matches by pin and Mooradian had a pinfall win along with two wins by 8-4 decision. 

Eight more Bulldogs earned a Top four finishes on the day including a second place finish by Jakob Snellings who posted a 2-1 record at 106lbs. Third place was earned by Caleb Vogelsberg (220lbs), Jonny Crome (120lbs), Jacob Stryker (182lbs) and Gabe Capp (138lbs) who all went 4-1 on the mats, while it was a 3-1 day for Ben Dwerlkotte (195lbs) who also took third and Garron Champoux (160lbs) went 5-1 on the mats to grab a third place finish. Derek Roever at 145lbs added a fourth place finish for Marysville going 3-2 on the mats. 

Perry Lecompton Kaws took second place as a team by 16.5 points over Chapman and were led by six Top four performances on the day. A trio of second place finishes paced the Kaws on the mats at the Mission Valley Invitational as Wyatt Pringle (120lbs), Nick Quinlan (152lbs) and Collin Rossillon (220lbs) all earned second place finishes. Both Pringle and Quinlan went 2-1 on mats, while Rossillon went 4-1 in action. Kyle Bonham (285lbs) and Braden Woodson (106lbs) each tallied third place finishes going 3-1 and 4-1 on the day, while Dalton Kahle (113lbs) notched a fourth place finish after going 3-2 on the mats for the Kaws. 

Doniphan West was led by a pair of Top four finishers on the day as Zeb Speer behind a 3-1 record earned second place at 160lbs on the day and Houston Idol at 106lbs notched a 3-2 record to take fourth place. 

Oskaloosa Bears had a pair of Top four finishers with Jared Miller taking second place at 182lbs going 2-1 and Chris King placed fourth at 220lbs with a 2-3 day on the mats. Jeff West Tigers had one Top four finisher as Chase Montgomery earned fourth place at 182lbs gong 2-2 in action.
