Holton 40, Perry Lecompton 10

The week four district opener did not start off well for the Holton Wildcats but got much better as the night progressed. Holton responded by a couple first half turnovers and pulled away from a 16-10 halftime lead for a convincing 40-10 victory at Big East foe Perry Lecompton. It was the third straight win for the Cats and spoiled the Kaws homecoming as they fell to 0-4 on the year.

Holton found themselves down 7-0 after fumbling the opening kickoff and giving Perry a short 20-yard field. On fourth down the Amos Brakenhoff punched in a three-yard TD to give the home team the early lead. Holton responded after a nice kick return by Kannon Segenhagen with a 52-yard drive and on the sixth play, fullback Cael Frazier broke free up the middle for a 17-yard touchdown run. He added the two-point run for an 8-7 advantage and Holton never trailed again. After forcing a quick punt, the Wildcats drove again but fumbled in the redzone.

The next Holton drive resulted in a touchdown as Andrew Shupe scampered 41 yards to pay-dirt and Korban Wilson’s two-point conversion put the Cats ahead 16-7. Perry Lecompton had a 14-play drive including a trio of long third down conversions and got a 34-yard field goal by AJ Campbell to cut the lead to 16-10 as Holton missed a 36-yard field goal just before intermission.

The Holton defense set the tone for the second half forcing a quick three-and-out as the Wildcats put together a pair of touchdown drives that were capped by a Alec Frazier 22-yard touchdown and a Wilson five-yard TD run.  Leading 30-10, Holton defense gave up just two first downs on the next four Perry possessions and the Cats defense got two points on a safety when a punt snap sailed over the Kaws kicker.  Holton finished the scoring for the night with a 7-yard score from Brody Nicol and although not have any passing attempts or yards on the night, Holton converted  a pair of two-point pass plays from Alec to Wilson and to Grant Warner.

Holton ran the ball 60 times for 477 yards led by Korban Wilson with 150 yards on 18 carries and Shupe with 124 yards on 14 totes. Alex Frazier added 77 yards and Cael had 59 while Nicol finished with 44 yards in the fourth quarter on just six carries and all five of those guys had a touchdown as Holton improved to 3-1 on the season.

Perry had 67 rushing yards and 141 passing with Garrett Metcalfe going 8-22 through the air. He also had 45 yards rushing while Amos had 43 yards on 23 carries and the lone Kaw touchdown. Kaden Baker was the top target with 90 yards on five receptions but Perry fumbled the ball twice in the second half.

Holton host Jeff West (3-1) for homecoming in a week five district game while Perry will play their final non-district game against Royal Valley.
