TVL Victories Come for Frankfort Girls & Valley Heights Boys On the Court

Twin Valley League action started to heat up on Friday night in the high school basketball season and Valley Heights hosted Frankfort in a pair of League affairs. The Frankfort lady Wildcats used an early big run pushed them to the road 57-41 win, while Valley Heights boys overcame an early deficit to win 58-39. 

Valley Heights girls got the initial lead of the game 1-0 but Frankfort responded with a 12-0 to take control of the game as Becca Adams hit a pair of early three's and Kaci Vaughn was active in the post with five points in the first quarter. The 12-0 run in the first gave Frankfort a 16-5 lead after the first quarter of action and they pushed that lead out further with an 11-4 second frame to lead 27-9 at intermission as Valley Height was struggling to put the ball in the hoop. The Mustangs got their top offensive threat going in the second half as Kayla Smith got to the foul line and started to get shots to fall after a scoreless first half and netted 21 points in the second half. But the early lead by Frankfort proved to be too much for the Mustangs to overcome and Frankfort finished out the contest with the 57-41 win. 

Frankfort was led by balanced scoring as 10 different players registered at less two points led by Adams who scored 11 points and was part of the early game 12-0 run for the Wildcats with a pair of three's. Adams earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA for her performance. Emilee Ebert chipped in 10 points, while both Kennen Brandt, Vaughn and Amburley Kokoruda each scored seven. The win moves Frankfort to 2-2 on the year 1-1 in TVL play. 

Valley Heights with the loss fell to 1-2 on the year and 1-1 in the League and in the loss were led by Smith who finished with 21 points going 8-13 from the free throw line. 

The Frankfort boys in the nightcap started the game strong on the back of Adam Kenworthy who scored 11 points in the first quarter of the teams 17 and the Wildcats led 17-11 after the first against Valley Heights. Wildcats held onto the lead until the 3:30 mark in the second quarter when Valley Heights went up 23-22 and ultimately never gave the lead back going up by as many as 11 in the second and the Mustangs led 33-27 at halftime. Adrian Pishny and Logan Woodyard led the Mustangs run in the second quarter scoring eight and six points in the quarter, respectively. The lead grew over the course of the second half as Valley Heights outscored Frankfort 25-12 in the second half to gain the 58-39 win. 

With the win Valley Heights moves to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the TVL and were led in the win by Pishny who scored 22 points earning Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Bryan Yungeberg chipped in 12 points and Woodyard tallied 10 for the Mustangs. 

Frankfort with the loss falls to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in TVL play and was led by Kenworthy in the contest as he netted 13 points on the night, while Mitchell Olson chipped in nine. 

Both teams hit the court again on Tuesday, December 13th as Frankfort heads to Linn and Valley Heights also hits the road traveling to Republic County in a non-league showdown.
