Jeff West & Onaga Wrestlers Compete at Herington Invite

A pair of area schools hit the wrestling mats for the first time out of the holiday break as Jeff West and Onaga both competed at the Herington Invitational. 

Fifteen schools were in action on the day and Jeff West earned eighth place as a team, while Onaga placed 14th. Jeff West had seven grapplers in action on the day and they all finished seventh place or better all registering at least one win at the Herington Invitational. Chase Montgomery led the Tigers on the day earning second place going 4-1 on the mats at 182lbs. Montgomery earned three of his four wins by pinfall (2:21, 1:06 and 4:19) and also won by a 9-4 decision. A third place finish was earned by Kody Gibson at 132lbs after going 3-2 on the mats, while Shane Kelly (120lbs) with a 2-3 record on the day took fourth place. Tyler Casto (145lbs) behind a 3-2 record on the day earned fifth place and Kole Henley (106lbs) also finished fifth earning one win on the mats at the Herington Invitational. Luke Holloman (152lbs) took sixth going 2-3, while Joel Scott (138lbs) placed seventh also registering a pair of wins in action. 

Onaga Buffaloes were led by Quentin Lara who wrestled to a second place finish at 195lbs going 4-1 in action with three pinfall wins (1:18, :30 and 1:09) and also won by injury and in the Championship bout fell in overtime. Vincent Lara (220lbs) placed sixth and went 2-3 on the mats, while also in action for Onaga was Trenton Cott (152lbs), Kylar Schmitt (182lbs) and Kameron Henneberg (145lbs). Cott finished ninth on the day and recorded three wins, while Schmitt had two wins on the mat and placed 10th, while Henneberg recorded one win finishing 11th place. 

Jeff West is set to continue their wrestling season on January 13th and 14th at the St. Mary's Invite, while Onaga will compete at the Council Grove Invite coming up on January 21st.
