Royal Valley Softball Sweeps Sabetha

On a windy Thursday afternoon Sabetha Bluejays softball played host to Royal Valley for Big Seven doubleheader and the Panthers proved too be to much for the Bluejays earning the sweep with 10-0 and 17-2 wins each in five innings. 

Royal Valley jumped ahead early in game one getting runners on via walk and an error on a throw gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the Top of the first inning. Bluejays responded with a pair of runners getting on via walks in the bottom of the first but no runs and it was 1-0 Royal Valley after one inning. The lead stretched out for Royal Valley in the second scoring four runs highlighted by a RBI double from Maggie Schuetz and the Panthers went on to score two more in the fourth and three in the fifth. While Sabetha had another scoring opportunity in the bottom of the second but left a pair of runners on and struggled to get runners the rest of the game leading to a 10-0 five inning Royal Valley win. 

Masey Lafferty earned the win in the circle for the Panthers going five innings giving up just one hit and three walks, while striking out seven. While the Panthers offense was led by Schuetz who was 2-4 with three RBI's and a double, while the team drew seven walks and had two hit batters. 

In the loss Sabetha got their lone hit from Hillary Krebs and Lexie Phillips went all five innings giving up 10 runs but only on three hits but gave up seven walks and two hit batters, while the Bluejay defense had five errors. 

Royal Valley pounced early in game two taking a 1-0 lead in the Top of the first and then put u up four runs in the second and fourth innings with Schuetz and Sarah Beam leading the way. Schuetz had a two RBI single in the second and a two RBI double in the fourth, while Beam in the second had an RBI double and two-run homer in the fourth. In the circle Danielle Stithem set down Sabetha in order the first three innings but the Bluejays broke through in the bottom of the fourth with four singles and scored two runs but left the bases loaded and it was 9-2 at the end of four frames. Panthers batted around in the Top of the fifth and scored eight and finished the game off in five innings earning the 17-2 win. 

Stithem earned the win in the circle giving up two runs on four hits in five innings with one walk and two strikeouts. Schuetz again led the offense going 4-4 with six RBI's, while Beam was also 4-4 with four RBI, two runs scored, a double and two-run homer. 

Sabetha in the loss got hits from Maggi Hughes, Karlie Speilman, Trista Argabright and Krebs. 

The wins stretch the Panthers win streak to eight straight moving them to 15-3 on the season, while Sabetha in their first season with high school softball saw their record fall to 4-14 on the year. Both teams will wrap up the regular season Monday, May 8th as Royal Valley travels to Holton and Sabetha travels to Riverside.
