On Saturday there were plenty of bumps, sets and spikes as Hiawatha played host to volleyball tournament action with several area teams in action and the Top four team finishes were area squads. Centralia earned the tourney crown, while Jefferson County North took second, Atchison third and Horton fourth.
The action heated up with pool play to start the tournament. In the Blue pool it featured four teams and Centralia went 3-0 with straight set wins over Savannah, Atchison and Troy to win the pool. Atchison went 2-1 in pool play to take second in the pool beating Savannah in three sets and Troy in straight sets, while Savannah topped Troy in three sets.
The Red pool featured five teams with JCN leading the way going 4-0 with straight set wins over Lafayette, Hiawatha, Horton and Riverside. Taking second in the pool was the Horton Chargers who earned three wins going 3-1 by beating Hiawatha and Riverside in straight sets and topping Lafayette in three sets. Lafayette finished third in the pool going 2-2 beating Riverside and Hiawatha both in straight sets, while Riverside topped Hiawatha in straight sets in the other pool play contest.
In bracket play on the consolation side Savannah beat Riverside in straight sets and Lafayette topped Troy in three sets. That set up a fifth place match between Savannah and Lafayette which was won by Savannah in straight sets.
The Semifinals saw a pair of straight set matches as JCN beat Atchison and Centralia was victorious against Horton. Atchison responded by taking third with a straight set win over Horton in the third place match. While in the Championship it was Centralia beating JCN in straight sets finishing the day 5-0, while JCN posted a 5-1 mark on the day.
