Back at State for the first time since 2001 the Marysville Bulldogs girls basketball team earned a Top four finish for the sixth time out of seven trips to State. Bulldogs closed out the 4A-DII State tournament with a 64-43 loss to Hugoton.
Hugoton led just 13-10 after the first quarter over Marysville but that lead grew continually across the rest of the game with a 13-9 second quarter to lead to the 26-19 halftime lead for Hugoton. In the second half Marysville continued to struggle to score and Hugoton finished the game with a 26-15 fourth quarter to secure the 64-43 win.
The Bulldogs struggled from the floor shooting just 25% in the loss. Sydney Pacha led Marysville with 20 points in the contest, while Sami Bartels put together a strong double-double with 13 points and 19 rebounds. The duo accounted for all but 10 points in the game.
Marysville opened State beating Nickerson 58-45 in the first round and then in the Semifinals fell to Andale 48-38 before capping State with a fourth place finish falling to Hugoton 64-43.
The 1-2 showing at State wrapped up the season for Marysville with fourth place hardware in 4A-DII and a 18-6 record.
