Sabetha Leads Performances at Home Boys Golf Invitational

The clubs were swinging in Sabetha on Monday as the Bluejays hosted boys’ golf action welcoming seven other schools to town for action. 

At the end of the day it was Sabetha on top of the leaderboard in most of the competitions as Sabetha won the overall team score of six players posting a team score of 532. Nemaha Central field six golfers and took second with a 609, while Marysville finished third with a 636 six-man team score and Maur Hill-Mount Academy was the only other school with a full six-man team finishing with a 642 to take fourth. 

The four-man team top spot also belonged to Sabetha as they recorded a 341 winning by 61 strokes. Nemaha Central took second with a four-man score of 402, while a 448 four-man score for Maur Hill placed them third and Marysville took fourth with a 456 four-man score. 

At the Sabetha Invite the teams also competed in a two-man team score competition and the Holton Wildcats won that tandem scoring as the Wildcat two-man team won teh with a 178 score. Marysville was only two-strokes back in second with a 180, while Sabetha finished third with a two-man score of 191. Maur Hill, Nemaha Central and Horton finished fourth, fifth and sixth with two-man team scores of 194, 207 and 225, respectively. 

Leading the charge for Sabetha on the day was the play of Garrett Scott who shot an 81 to take first place, while David Pierson and Jesse Burger finished second and third with rounds of 82 and 86, respectively. The trio teamed with Tanner Ukele who shot a 92 to place ninth individually and finish out the four-man Sabetha team score. Carson Ukele notched tenth place individually for the Bluejays with a 94. 

Holton Wildcats on the way to the first place in the two-man competition was led by AJ Haussler who shot an 87 to place fourth individually, while Ryan Taylor carded a 91 to place eighth and the tandem made up the Wildcat two-man score. 

A pair of Marysville Bulldogs finished in the Top 10 individually as Tyler Rader shot an 87 to take fifth, while Jackson Rader with an 91 placed seventh. Brant Kieffer, Alex Arntt, Jason Arntt and Tabi Wright posted rounds of 102, 102, 124 and 128, respectively for Marysville. 

A 90 on the course earned Maur Hill-Mount Academy Raven, Riley Funk a sixth place finish, while Cole Harris carded the second best performance for the Ravens with an 94.  

Nemaha Central notched a pair of second place team showings overall on the day and were led by Dalton Schmelzle and Eric Hammes who shot a 95 and 97, respectively. 

Horton, Hiawatha and Atchison each had competitors in action on the day. The Chargers were led by Cole Bottom as he shot a 99, while Hiawatha's lone golfer was Caden Lillie who shot a 107 and Atchison's lone golfer was Nathan Sowers who posted a 100.
