The high school volleyball season continued Tuesday night as the Sabetha Bluejays hosted a Big 7 League triangular with Perry Lecompton and Jeff West, and it was the host Bluejays who went 2-0 on the night with a pair of two-set victories while the Kaws finished 1-1 and the Tigers 0-2.

The first match of the night saw Sabetha take down Perry in straight sets winning 25-18 in set one and 25-17 in the second.

The first set of the match was basically all Bluejays from the start, as Sabetha raced out to an 8-4 advantage. Perry battled back though and actually took a 14-12 lead at one point, but Sabetha recorded seven of the last eight points to take the set.

Set number two was basically exactly like set one, with the Bluejays jumping out to an 8-3 lead. Just like set one the Kaws battled back and took a lead at 9-8, and after the two teams traded points the Bluejays ended the match recording six of the last seven points in the set.

The second match of the night was the only match that went to three sets, as Perry bounced back after the opening loss to Sabetha by taking down Jeff West 25-17, 25-23 and 25-18.

Set one was dominated by Perry, as the Kaws raced out to an 18-7 lead and never looked back. Jeff West battled back though in set number two, jumping out on top 10-6 and 24-17 before ultimately having to hold off a late Perry rally to force a decisive third set. In the third set Perry dominated just like the first, getting out to a 14-8 lead before taking the match with a 25-18 win.

The final match of the night was another thriller despite Sabetha needing just two sets to take down down Jeff West 25-19 and 35-33.

The first set went back-and-forth initially, but the Bluejays were able to take control at one point leading 18-12 before going on to take set one fairly easily.

The second set was an absolute thriller in one of the longest sets you will ever see. Neither team was able to lead by more than three points throughout the set, with Jeff West’s Aaliyah Negonsott and Sabetha’s Melinna Schumann trading kills back-and-forth. The Bluejays Nikki Kuenzi also had a big second set, recording clutch blocks and kills to keep Sabetha alive.

Jeff West had set point five times, but couldn’t find a way to force a decisive third.

The two wins improved Sabetha to 10-7 on the season and 5-3 in Big 7 League play, while Perry moved to 11-3 (4-3) and Jeff West dropped to 5-7 (4-3).
