After playing for the State Football Championship just six days ago, we were in Sabetha, Kansas, this time on the hardwood. Both the Marysville girls and boys basketball teams were in town for a Non-League 3A matchup. Just one year ago the Marysville girls would take home the win over Sabetha 40-34, and the Marysville boys would win their game 59-47 to complete the sweep. But this time was a little bit different as the Sabetha seniors would play the biggest factor in completing the sweep as the Sabetha girls get the win 60-32, and the Sabetha boys 77-50.

The Sabetha girls would get the 60-32 win, as they would make 11 3-pointers on the night. They would also go 11 of 15 from the free throw line and have a total of just 13 turnovers. Senior Hillary Krebs would net 15 points as she would make 5 of the 11 three-pointers. Senior Skylar McAfee would net 10 points and go 2 of 4 from the line. Junior Maggi Hughes also netted 10 points, Payton Michael added five points and several girls would chime in with a couple points.

The Marysville girls would finish the game with just one made 3-pointer and they would go 17 of 26 from the line and have 15 turnovers in the game. Senior Nicole Franco had 10 points and was 8 of 14 from the line. Sami Bartels would also net 10 points and go 6 of 7 from the line. Macy Roever chipped in 8 points and Linda Franco netted 4 points.

In the night finale, the Sabetha boys would pull away late and take the win by a score of 77-50. Senior Ryan Stapleton would net 19 points in the ball game. Joe Gruber and Jesse Burger both added 12 points. Braeden Cox had 11 points in the game. Gabe Garber chipped in 8 points, Marcus Funk netted 5 points and Mason Spellmeier would have 4 points. The Jays would make four 3-pointers and go 15 of 20 from the free throw line and have just 11 team turnovers, despite only a couple basketball practices with the full squad.

Marysville would net seven 3-pointers, go 4 of 8 from the lineand have 10 team turnovers. Senior Jacob Backus would lead the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points. Dalton Denner had 10 points. Jackson Radar and Gavin Pieschel both had 6 points in the ball game. Alex White and Koby Schroeder would have 4 points a piece and Cody Brown had 3 points on the night.

Both Sabetha girls and boys complete the sweep and will start the season 1-0. Both Sabetha teams will travel to Wamego next Tuesday. The Marysville girls and boys both start their seasons out at 0-1 as they travel to Valley Heights next Tuesday.
