Just one week remains before the holiday break for the high school basketball season and Friday night the Atchison Redmen played host to the Rossville Bulldawgs. Atchison split the doubleheader with the Lady Dawgs taking the girls game 48-36 while the Redmen took the boys game 70-45.

GIRLS

The night began with the Atchison girls searching for their first win of the season and while the Lady Red played well at times their youth and inexperience showed in a 48-36 loss to Rossville.

The Lady Dawgs jumped out to an 11-6 lead after the first quarter as Atchison’s only points came from senior Kadejah Ross while the Lady Red also committed seven turnovers.

Atchison played much better offensively in the second quarter only committing two turnovers, but the Lady Red couldn’t find a way to stop Rossville senior Caila Hill as she notched seven points in the quarter to push the Lady Dawg’s lead to 20-14 at halftime.

Hill put the game away for Rossville with eight more points in the third quarter, as the Lady Dawgs pushed their lead to 15 points after three quarters.

Hill was outstanding all night long finishing with a game-high 27 points on 11 of 16 shooting from the free throw line.

Atchison had chances in the second half to pull back within single digits, but nine was the closest they got as Kadejah Ross led the way with 18 points while the Lady Red shot just 5 of 18 from the line.
