Twin Valley League Tournament Day Two Recap

The Twin Valley League tournament continued Tuesday night with another full day of action and once again there was excitement, big wins, close games and even upsets.

With expected weather again Friday and Saturday the tournament will wrap up Thursday night and an updated version of the bracket can be found here.

Boys Blue Valley 59, Axtell 41

Axtell jumped out to a 13-12 lead after the first quarter but Blue Valley outscored the Eagles 14-10 in the second to take a 26-23 lead into halftime. The Rams then came out in the third quarter and outscored Axtell 18-12 to put the game away. Cole Montgomery led Blue Valley with 22 points while Lane Peter added 18. Axtell was led by Quinn Buessing’s 22 points while Jonah Porting added 10.

Boys Clifton-Clyde 50, Frankfort 33

The Eagles jumped out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back leading by a 33-16 score at the half. Jarik Weiche led Clifton-Clyde with 14 points while Aiden Rudolph added 12. Brandon Anderson was the only double-figure scorer for the Wildcats as he finished with 11 points.

Boys Troy 58, Linn 50

Troy jumped out to a 23-18 lead at the half and held on for the eight point win. Tate Smith led the Trojans with 21 points, while Reid Jasper added 17. Tyler Ohlde led the Bulldogs with 13 points while Daniel York and Trent Beier each added 10.

Boys Hanover 67, Valley Heights 44

Hanover used a 27-5 second quarter to jump on top of the Mustangs and cruise to the victory. Carter Bruna led the Wildcats with 17 points while Thomas Atkins added 16. Cameron Beardsley led Valley Heights with 16 points while Jackson O’Toole added 11.

Boys Centralia 68, Washington County 65

After being down by as many as 14 points Centralia’s Colby Arnold hit two free throws with no time on the clock at the end of regulation to force overtime before the Panthers outscored the Tigers 12-9 in the extra period. Kamble Haverkamp and Daegan Steinlage each led Centralia with 18 points, while Washington County was led by Wyatt Benz’s 25.

Boys Wetmore 39, Doniphan West 37

Wetmore used a 14-10 third quarter to jump out in front of the Mustangs before holding on late. Kael McQueen led the Cardinals with 16 points, while Doniphan West had Fletcher Penny lead the way with 16 points as well.

Girls Clifton-Clyde 54, Blue Valley 41

Up just four points going into the fourth quarter the Clifton-Clyde girls used a 22-13 final quarter to put the Rams away. Kalista Hubert led the Eagles with 20 points while Jaysie Bowser added 18. Blue Valley was led by Brooklyn Zoellers 18 points while Allie Cassel added 11.

Girls Frankfort 66, Doniphan West 25

The Frankfort girls outscored Doniphan West 40-14 in the first half to get a big lead and never look back. Mariah Broxterman led the Wildcats with 15 points while Kennan Brandt added 11. Makinley Smith led Doniphan West with 12 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the free throw line.

Girls Hanover 44, Axtell 35

Behind a 16-6 third quarter the Hanover girls were able to build a lead and hold off Axtell to pull out the win. Macy Doebele led the Wildcats with 20 points, while Kinsey Feldkamp led Axtell with 14 points and Hana Shmitz added 12.

Girls Centralia 36, Valley Heights 35

After trailing going into the fourth quarter the Centralia girls used a 14-9 fourth quarter to ultimately hold on and pull out the victory over Valley Heights. The Panthers were led by Maddy Lueger who finished with 11 points to lead all scorers, while the Mustangs were led by Emma Yungeberg who finished with 9.

Girls Washington County 55, Onaga 12

The Tigers jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and led 30-14 at the half to cruise to the win. Alyssa Kern led Washington County with 13 points, while McKenzie Metz chipped in 12 points and Camryn Boykin added 11. Kady Figge led Onaga with 8 points in the game shooting 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.

Girls Wetmore 56, Troy 28

After leading by just seven points at halftime and 11 going into the fourth quarter, Wetmore outscored the Trojans 20-3 in the final frame to earn the victory. Alyssa Bloom led the Cardinals with 19 points, while Kenzie Strathman added 11. Troy was led by Macy Norris who finished with 8 points while Lizzie Schultz added 7.
