For the first time in a week the Centralia and Hanover basketball teams hit the floor in Centralia Friday night and each came away with wins, as the Panther girls won in overtime 52-50 while the Wildcat boys won the night cap 59-50.
GIRLS – No. 7 Centralia 52, No. 6 Hanover 50
It wasn’t pretty by any means, but when it counted the Centralia girls made the plays they needed to remain unbeaten in the Twin Valley League with a thrilling 52-50 overtime win over Hanover.
The Panthers jumped out to a 13-8 lead after one quarter behind eight points from senior Maddy Lueger, but Hanover was able to pull within one going into halftime after forcing nine Centralia turnovers in the second quarter.
Hanover continued their run into the third quarter to lead 34-28 going into the fourth, but Centralia had one last comeback late in the fourth quarter.
Down three with around 14 seconds left, the Panthers called a timeout and drew up the perfect play to try to tie the game.
Senior Morgan Kramer went around two screens and drilled a wide open 3-pointer from the right wing with one second left to tie the game and force overtime.
The Panthers then controlled the overtime period, leading by as many as five points before going on to win by two points.
Despite 21 turnovers the Panthers were able to remain perfect in TVL play improving to 10-2 overall and 7-0 in league play, while the loss drops Hanover to 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the TVL.

BOYS – Hanover 59, Centralia 50
Despite trailing by six points after the first quarter, the Hanover boys used a 14-7 fourth quarter to escape with a road win at Centralia 59-50.
The Wildcats overcame a 15-9 first quarter deficit and a 11-1 deficit to the start the game by scoring 21 points in the second quarter to lead 30-27 at the half.
Centralia was able to stick to within two going into the fourth quarter, but Hanover senior Daiken Stallbaumer scored eight points in the fourth to allow the Wildcats to expand their lead before winning by nine.
The Wildcats finished with nine 3-pointers in the game, with four coming from senior Dawson Sedlacek and three from Stallbaumer.
Hanover (12-1, 8-0 TVL) will next travel to Valley Heights on Tuesday, while Centralia (8-5, 5-3) will host Rock Creek.
