Royal Valley Grapplers Take Second at Cougar Classic

Royal Valley Panthers continued their success on the mat over the weekend with a second place finish at the Cougar Classic hosted by Shawnee Mission Northwest on Saturday.

Panthers registered 152.5 points on the day that was good for a second place finish, only behind Topeka-Washburn Rural. Royal Valley grabbed two first place finishes, one second and third place and five fourth place finishes on the day.

Tanner Ogden (152) and Christian Matthews (170) lead the way for the Panthers as they both went undefeated to capture individuals titles on the day. Both Ogden and Matthews remained unbeaten on the season with their performances over the weekend as Tanner improved to 10-0 and Christian Matthews improved his record to 11-0 on the year.

The only second place picked up by the Panthers, was secured by Tristen Matthews in the 182lb weight class as he went 2-1 on the day. While, a third place finish was picked up by Austin Ashley in the weight class of 113lbs, finishing on the day with a 3-1 record.

Five Panthers finished the day with fourth place finishes on the day as Noah Hart (120), Pallas Tye (126), Michael Bailey (138), Chance Ogden (160) and Wes McClane (285).
