Holton Leads Group of 12 Area Wrestlers Qualifying for 4A State Wrestling

Class 4A Regional at Smoky Valley – Results  

Area wrestlers vied for a spot in the Class 4A state wrestling tournament at Salina coming up next weekend and 12 area wrestlers punched their tickets to state on Saturday.

At the Class 4A regional in Smoky Valley the Holton Wildcats finished third as a team with four regional champions and six total wrestlers punching tickets to the state tournament.

The Cats were led by Jake Barnes at 106 pounds, Kolby Rousch at 132, Cael Jackson at 152 and Konnor Tannahill at 182 pounds all claiming regional titles. Holton also had Cayden Jackson qualify for state taking third at 120 pounds, while Taygen Fletcher did the same in the 138 pound weight class.

Along with Holton, Jeff West also had a wrestler earn a spot at state from the Smoky Valley regional as Joel Scott punched his ticket with a fourth place finish at 170 pounds.

Five more area wrestlers earned state tournament berths at the 4A Paola regional with Perry Lecompton qualifying four wrestlers for Salina.

The Kaws had two wrestlers earn runner-up finishes as Thad Metcalfe took second at 138 pounds while Hayden Robb did the same at 220 pounds. Perry also had Grant Roush at 152 pounds and Collin Rossillin at 285 each take fourth to earn spots at state.

The Atchison Redmen also had one wrestler earn a trip to state, as Jake Rebant finished third at 126 pounds to cap off 4A state qualifiers.

The Class 4A state tournament is scheduled to begin Friday from Salina and we will have live reports throughout the day on 103.9 KNZA beginning at 10:30 am.
