Centralia Girls, Axtell Boys Win Washington County Cross Country Invitational

Washington County Invitational Results – Girls & Boys

The high school cross country season continued Thursday evening with area teams competing at the Washington County Invitational and it was the Centralia girls along with the Axtell boys who picked up team wins.

The Panther girls won the team title with two top 10 finishes led by Olivia Kuckelman who took second while Emma Holthaus finished not far behind in fifth.

Axtell added two more runners inside of the top 10 with Jordyn Smith taking seventh while Aspen Buessing finished ninth.

The meet was won by Washington County’s Natalie Harlan who took the top spot with a time of 21:03.99, while Valley Heights’ Sam Vermetten finished third to lead the Mustangs.

The final two spots in the top 10 were claimed by Hanover, Clifton-Clyde and Linn as the Wildcats had Michell Zarybnicky finish sixth, the Eagles Jaysie Bowser eighth and the Bulldogs Claire Beikmann ninth.

On the boy’s side Axtell won the meet fairly easily with four guys inside of the top 10 led by Quinn Buessing who took second nearly a minute behind a runner from St. John.

The Eagles also had Simon Schmitz finish third, Clark Werner fourth and Mitchell Buessing seventh.

The boy’s side was rounded out by Linn, Nemaha Central and Centralia as the Bulldogs had Daniel York finish sixth, the Thunder Trenton Schmelzle eighth and the Panthers Ransom Engelken.
